to make a long story short the factory radio/tape deck didnt work when we bought the truck. 95 discovery btw. i bought an aftermarket deck and when i go to pull the factory radio out the mess of wires behind it was so unbelievably horrid. im thinking someone had did a half-assed job of wiring a different stereo in then when they went to sell the truck they crammed the old radio back in without hooking it back up so now im in the process of rewiring all the speakers. i found some good info about getting the factory sub box to work with an aftermarket stereo on

^that thread and its pretty self-explanitory but im wondering since im removing the factory amp under the seat if ill have to do something about rewiring all that garbage too or does the wiring behind the radio go directly to the subs without going through the amp first?

Amp under the seat???

Look again, you'll find it's probably a cd changer... :)

it does kinda look like a cd changer:p

i think the word "AMP" written on it gives it away:D

after reading about 4 threads on this i think im just gonna run new wire to the subs anyway since im running new wire to the rear speakers. the back of the sub box looks like this:
amp2.jpg

6 wires:
2 black
1 red
1 orange/green
1 yellow/purple
1 with a very loose rubber sleeve. no color, just naked wire under the sleeve.

can someone tell me which one does which so i know what to splice into?

edit: oh and whats the best route for running the rear speaker wire? under the carpet? headliner? or maybe just under the truck?

Well how queer! never seen one o them afore...

Didn't notice ye wer a merkin!

PASS - think ye'll be on yerown with that one m8!

and by the way its a LANDROVER not a fecking truck , it aint got a scania badge !

truck is just a general term is use for something that has enough space in it to haul things that a car cant.

i found a shortcut to the rear speakers but still havent had the time to figure out the subs yet. ill poke around more.

Rear sub amp/loudspeakers wiring as follows.
There are three circuits to the rear sub. 12+v amp power taken from the head unit supply, (light green/orange wire at the amp, also a local earth wire which is black at the amp (naked wire under sleeve).
The 12+v amp switching wire (purple/yellow at the amp).
The audio signal cable (black & white wires in a screened cable).

UK spec discos don't have any other seperate amps so I can't help with that, but the wiring as with all amps will be similar ie. power, audio signal, loudspeaker outputs and maybe amp switching. I can only assume the the amp under the seat is for the remaining loudspeakers which in the UK total 4 plus 2 tweeters located up by the windscreen.

thanks man that should save me alittle time. it seems the amp under the seat powers the front and rear speakers but not the box. i already ran new fronts but it should save me a headache by running new wire just to the amp instead of directly to the rear speakers.
