hmmm, problems

shes started chucking out a bit of Blue smoke on start up, and every now and then she will chuck out a cloud of blue smoke while running...

I had a cam belt break on me about 4 months ago, bent a load of push rods and snapped a few rocker arms, I am thinking i could of damaged one of the valve seals?

Spoke to a friend of mine whose a mechanic, and a military land rover nut, and he said that as long as it runs ok, doesn rattle or idle lumpy i wouldnt worry untill such a time as its worth pulling the head off and doing the whole lot (head gasket, valve regrind, valve seals etc)

thoughts?

thats my thoughts, i can live with the smokey-ness, as long as its not a sign of impending doom, and providing its not a sign of poor compression (therefore making it a **** to start in the cold)

If your worried about your compression , just have it checked,

then stick veg oil in it ......it'll smoke then on start up,

Worth checking the Turbo as its cheap and easy to check the shaft.

Take the intake pipe from the turbo and you can feel the rotor shaft, there should be a tiny bit of play up and down, but not any in and out.

Too much play is bad news. If there is play then see if there is oil in the intercooler pipework, if thats clean (Mine was spotless) then drop the downpipe and see if that is oily.

If its all good then you have removed that from the list of possibilities.

Hello Devs

North Essex is our usual playground and we often go out for a play.

Not sure if anyone else is out Sunday but this weekend I am going to be busy doing essential jobs to my Disco and Sunday I wont be ready.

Keep an eye on this thread for any future planned trips. Usually once a month, but more often as the cold nights draw in.

Got the 2 rear bearings to do this weekend. Was fitting a floor in a house this morning and on the way home they were chirping like anything

Oh well, I bought them intending to do them when Stu helped me do the front ones but other things got done instead then I lost the bearings and finally forgot about them..... until today lol.

Anyway, got back home and then got the boot floor tidied up. Might stick a little more seam sealer around at some point but the main thing is it is in now!!!

Another tick on the list!

cheers for the response mate!!! found a few decent byways up around there. still a bit dry at the moment but looks as though some of them are going to be qyuite challenging.

will keep an eye out for an organised event on here and hopefully be able to meet some new faces!!

has anyone done the tidal road at foulness?? have been looking on OS and it seems to be a long byway, is it worth the trek?

Hopefully if all goes well this weekend.

Started off bad, I have noticed some faint grinding under braking and decided to have a check this afternoon.

I thought the rear pads were gone again because I have a sticky caliper I noticed when I replaced the pads.
Well although one pad was worn twice as fast as the others and will need to be sorted soon, it was not down to the metal.
Rear bearings seem good and all rear bushes and dampers seem ok.

Moved to the front and checked bearings first and drivers side had a little play so will need to nip it up.

Took passenger wheel off and the inside pad was completely worn down and piston stuck.

Luckily I refurbished a set from my old one so have a new pair of calipers to fit.

Not so straightforward though when the brake line does not come off without being wrecked and one of the bolts was rounded.

Got it off and packed up for the night.

Jobs for tomorrow:

Drop my wife and son off to work in stortford as I will need my car.

Pick up Mikey and pick up a couple of brake lines.

Go to RST for my new radius arm bushes and bolts and hopefully get a new set of brake caliper bolts.

Home to fit new calipers, bleed brakes and nip up bearing.

Then my origional plans can start after I've picked up anita and sam.

These are:

Change radius arm bushes.
Oil and filter change.
Diff oils and breathers.
Gearbox oil and filter.
Grease nipples.

All this while Mikey gets on with my rock sliders.

Busy busy.

Forgot to add the power steering pump needs changing. :lol:

Presume your getting the sliders done at the barn Brian? Be interested to come see them being made so not doubt I'll be around.
Can help me work out how I can afford to run a V8. :lol:

In the morning the brakes have to be done at mine as the landy is going nowhere until I have brakes. :lol:

Will move to the barn in the afternoon though.
