If you change your mind I have PM'd you my number. Let me know when your next out otherwise by text and I will see if I can join you.

I am fairly new to this so it would be great to meet a few like minded people who could also guide me into this passtime properly.

I have done a few night time lanes with some friends but they are usually fast as you can affairs, I prefer to go slowly and enjoy myself.
Sounds good, would like to meet up with some locals and try some new lanes. Not done any night laning, dont think i could be bothered with that.

Sorry to jump in on your thread but i live in Chelmsford and recently bought a disco with a few mods to get on the lanes. I used to ride the lanes a few years back on my enduro bike but have not been down many for quite a while and can't remember what one you can still get through. I kind of bought this so that the Missus can get involved in something too. I'm waiting for a mate to get one so that i don't go out and get stuck on my own. Is it still possible to get down the lane behind the back of the butchers arms, black chappel and can you complete the loop round stebbing. Would be interested in coming out with some others for a drive round. Though i've had plenty of 4x4's over the years i've never really gone laning through fear of damaging it. The disco we got now i'm not worried about too much and it's got a fair few bumps and grazes from off roading already. Was even thinking of taking it to Bures on the 1st so that we can have a play about with it.

Bures is a good tester!Might be out next weekend mate round your manor, well let you know if its a definate!

Disco-check
Dezul??-hopefully
Recovery points and a good rope/strop-you tell me
And most importantly some mates to pull you when you get stuck/laugh/take photos.
People will say get tires, wich, rollcages, 6 inch lift, jet boosters but you wont need that really. If its too rough i tend to bottle it and i still manage to get stuck loads.

Disco has big mud tyres, 2 inch lift, diff/sump/tank protection, front recovery points though need shackles, snorkel but unfortunately is a V8 so no diesel. Will look into ropes and stuff.

Wot is it with these essex boys n their v8s!!! :biggrin1:
Same here mate so i tend to stay clear of deep water-now ive learnt the hard way. Ropes/strops rated above what you need are the order of the day, Ive got a lifting strop and a strop from pro comp that nick75 told me was rated to 13ton.

yeah, the V8 water issue is a bit of a worry, just got to stop when it goes over the bonnet i guess. i'll have a look around online... Unless, do we have any 4x4 places round essex that sell that sort of stuff?

We're regulars at Bures. Normally a good day out. We also do a 60mile green lane tour from hedingham to stanstead

Wot is it with these essex boys n their v8s!!! Get out the WD40 !

You can't beat a derv ! :boxing:

Only problem i have is the thing starts to float !

I'm in Braintree and like you are fairly new to green laning and getting the missus into it as well.

I did the 60 miler with Drizz last Sunday in a standard V8 and only had a little bit of spluttering through the water and slipped into a little ditch which I got out of with the aid of some waffle boards.

I will keep an eye on this thread and join you if you get out.

My Daughters Birthday party on the 1st so wont be out at Bures on that day.

gratech in braintree???? i thought they were in maldon! also in essex you have RST landrover on west mersea, foley specialist vehicles in Roydon

and for general standard parts(good quality brands like firstline waterpumps, fram filters, valeo clutches, ferodo brake friction(plus all your oils/grease etc) you have motex in chelmsford, wickford, southend and romford
