Does it turn over with the head off?

By hand I mean lol

Next thing is to drop the sump and look at the big ends
I think I may have found the culprit sadly,

Brand new dayco timing belt that's now one solid lump. Doesn't explain the scoring though but it's that fine I can't feel anything. I'm thinking that the oil came in through the valves when the belt went and the pushrods bent

Did you by chance take any photos of the bores when you had the head off before? maybe that the "scratches " were there and have had no ill effects.

Cheers

Oh, yeah, that's erm...fecked...

Misalignment of the idler maybe or incorrect belt tensioning possible?? Also the 300Tdi does have FIP alignment issues that shreds belts...kits available to correct.

Tensioning needs to be done twice.

Oil from bent rods is possible and most likely in this case....

Vertical scoring, if you feel no ridge, I wouldn't be overly concerned.

And piston crown damage??

Is it possible to tell whether the belt has worn on the side due to a misalignment? do you have the revised sprocket and tensioner?

Cheers

The pully is the wrong type, needs a shoulder on it, might have an earlier type kit already on it or the op cheaped out and didnt change it
