engine dead but still got dash lights

hi all
been looking aroound on here for starting probs and it seems to be the starter motor i thinking.as in turn key and not a sound.ive tried a screw driver over the starter terminals and starter motor turns engine but not on the keys.am i right thinking it solinod here if not were else could i be looking cheers in advance andy

hi sorry about that its a 200tdi. 92 plate with imobiler . imbilisr light is off when dash lights are on. i have cleaned all connection also earth strap,s in mean time battery back on charge since it went flat on me trying all morning battery just over 1 year old aswell andy

First off try giving the small wire (ignition feed) a wiggle. If it still wont start then, check that the small wire turns to tive when the ignition key is turned to the 'crank' position. If it turns live, your starter solonoid is goosed.(this seems unlikely as it works when bridged) If it doesn't I would be looking at immobiliser, ignition switch or a broken wire/jammed relay.

I had something similar on our TDi 200 and it turned out to be the ignition switch/lock.

after spending time looking about it was final sorted it was a starter relay
replaced and fired straight away. ratty u were spot on cheers andy
