Hi Guys

went to start the freelander (1.8) and it tried for a split second and stopped I have tried to rotate the engine via the bottom pulley it will only turn 1/2 turn at best. i checked the cambelt that's ok but the timing looked out I stripped off the cambelt and the camshafts and I noticed when I removed them that number 4 exhaust valves tappets were at different heights. I took these out and now I can see the valve tops are at different heights. I'm sure its bent the end Exhaust valve on N0.4 cylinder :( but just wanted the thoughts of you guys before I strip the end off the thing.
Thanks

i'm surprised you felt the need to ask

it could just be the top end (change of valves and guides) at best

at worst holed pistons too

and piston probably ,ive just done a td4 which did the same parts cost £300 with new piston and good used head

Yep that occured to me after I posted. You can pick up a decent K series to rebuild for £250 :). I'd get one and do all the uprated LR bits etc then drop it in.

Nah the majority of Freelander owners haven't even heard of LZ and they don't have any problems.
you only see the doom and gloom when folks have a tragedy, still pretty rare for our superior "K" engines :)

Tis true there must be many working 1.8's out there I see quite a few around.

I'll be rebuilding one before too long and the gearbox :). I'm looking forward to that.
