What's the benefit of blanking off the EGR pipe? I've seen kits for sale.

i blanked my 300tdi disco to stop it breathing oil into the inlet manifold when i bought it it ran like a dog cleaned out inlet manifold golfball sized lump blocking one valve port, removed egr and fitted blanking plates both ends runs fine done another 70 thousand mile so far in it no probs
