Hi to all from a new member in need of a little help, Im looking at remapping my defender 07 2.4 ford lump but having trouble finding the right guys for the job ive found one company gcl tuning that my dealer reccomended (marshalls cambridge) but they seem a little pricey £310.00 is this good or bad ? this also includes the speed limiter removed and the work can be done at my dealership if needed.

As there may be members on this site who are in the know im just looking for some advise and pointers there web site is GCL Tuning...Bespoke Economy and Performance ECU Remapping Bury st Edmunds ive yet to speak with them direct but im sure ive seen cheaper companys for the same thing ? is it realy that different on there site it states that there insurance backed ect do i need this ?

Any help would be great thanks chaps

Ive just been on the phone to gcl and there maps are custom made to my requirements and are backed by a £1m insurance ill give superchips a call in the morning !

I first thought of superchips but there not that local to me ! if its worth it ill trundle up there.

Any thoughts on gcl ?

ive just been browsing the other post regarding the EGR valve dose my engine (2.4 Ford lump) have this ? is it worth it along side the remapping to blank it off ?

Would back shifts up on the egr valve. Take into consideration of you want a bigger inter cooler etc. Sure shifty would agree td5 alive are the guys to talk to. Also don't get a plug in chip. ecu remaps are much better

Hi, Just to keep all posted over the easter weekend ive had the defender remapped / chipped by gcl tuning the results are just great the torque is so good just puts a smile on my face every time get in her. ive not had it put on a dyno / rolling road yet but im expecting 35 bhp and 75 nm of torque i will try and pop some pics up at the weekend.

Also i managed to get the speed limiter removed for £50 wich i thought was a bargin !

I would like to thanks forum members for the help and gcl tuning for the remap and time

I used a place called ccc tech (google it and it shoudl come up) the guy is mobile nationwide and very reasonably priced... Used him on my a3 1.8turbo and it was immense... My boss used him to do his v8 tdi range rover too. I paid about £250 maybe a little less it was a couple of years ago.

My mate in Norwich is about to have his ECU remapped by JE Engineering. Not sure where they are but he wont travel too far so will be around Norfolk/Suffolk I would think. He seems to think he`ll have 170bhp!, afterwards.

As Chico mentioned.... taking the TD5 to JE Engineering (nr. Coventry) next month....

Stage 1 remap lifts performance to 170bhp (guess that is just there standard measured figure - obviously each engine will vary) and 375 Nm of torque.

Gary at TD5 Alive was my other option - seemed to have great reviews but Grimsby is a bit far to go.

Serveal places locally do the AutoLogic tunes, but these have not received such positive reviews and the deals JE Engineering are doing at the moment are very good - £238+VAT for stage 1 on a TD5!

Texas90 - really interested in how you get on with JE, they come across
professionally. I plan to get a stage 1 plus revised speed limiter on my 2.4 Ford lump. Let me know the results after you get it done please

Cheers!

No problem MauriceT - but not getting it done until mid-May....

From all accounts it should make the TD5 much better on major roads etc.... but it is still a Defender so not expecting sports car like performance :(
