Hello all,

I am not exactly a regular contributor, but was searching around for others experiences when "re-mapping" a 2.2 Puma before making a final decision. Anyway, I didn't find much that was of immediate use to me.

The work has been done, and I wanted to post the results on this forum, in the hope that it may help others when making their own choices.

I am the lucky owner of a 2014 Defender 110 station wagon that was bought with 600 miles on the clock. It sees little off-roading and it was bought because I just like Defenders, so it is never likely to be customised to death. It has done 62,000 miles, and they have been relatively long and gentle journeys. Landy has been serviced every 12,000 miles and I like to think that it has been reasonably well looked after.

I tend to drive 60-65 on the motorway in the 1200 rpm zone. (Yup, a "steady" driver!)

The company that did the work was Alive Tuning, and I elected to drop into their workshop so that I could have Landy "before and after" dyno tested. The work that I had done was a Stage 2 remap with their performance inter-cooler fitted too. Landy had just been serviced and covered 61,000 miles.

Before:
138.9 BHP (Corrected) power, measured at the flywheel. Max power at 127.1km/h, 3710rpm. (Apparently, this is slightly better than average)
76.2 BHP power, at the wheels (so, 62.7 BHP in transmission losses - yes, I still can't quite believe this either)
320.5 Nm of Torque. Max torque at 63.6km/h, 1855 rpm

I measured my fuel consumption for a couple of tanks before at (about) >25mpg.

After:
182.0 BHP (Corrected) power, measured at the flywheel. Max power at 114km/h, 3325 rpm.
120.4 BHP power, at the wheels (so, 61.6 BHP in transmission losses - no, I don't know why it dropped slightly either)
450.8 Nm of Torque. Max torque at 81.2km/h, 2370rpm

Its early days yet, but after two tanks, I am now seeing >31mpg.

Initially, apart from being cleaner at low speed, I was a little underwhelmed. Luckily, my long drive home took me past Thetford - lots of long, straight roads infested with slow moving traffic. After hesitantly trying my luck with a few tractors and cyclists, by the time I got to Bury St. Edmunds I was looking for anything to overtake (while driving in a responsible manner and observing all the rules of the road of course).

So, after my meandering and rather over-long narrative, my conclusion is that I am delighted with the results. It delivers what I wanted, which was better "driveability", some ability to overtake and even better mpg to boot.

I hope that this helps someone else.

P.S. I asked my insurer before the work was done whether they had any objection to it. They didn't; other than an assurance that the vehicle was adequately braked. Obviously, I strongly recommend that anyone considering this work should ask their own insurer BEFORE having the work done too.
