hi all. fiddling with the old fart bags again yesterday and got a bit confused with the height settings. i will keep it to the high settings (ti save typing). So the stored heights on the calibration tab are 120, 120,125,120. i sent it to high then turned off ignition. connected laptop and retreived heights on the heights tab, (which i beleive is the live data). they read 121,133,146,133. I assumed the rear left sensor is playing up but no faults came up. is it normal for the live readings to be that far off the stored settings?
Then i measured hub to arch and got 490,520,490,510. Using the heights tab i pressed the down buttons till all measured 490 and retreived heghts again and got 117,125,148,121. This is when the confusion started. i am working on the assumption that when looking at the calibration settings that FL and RL are driver side? so I started car again and went to std then back up to high(light on solid and compressor stopped). got out and measured again but now got 490,495,475,475. aarggh!
so i changed stored heights to 120,120,130,125 to see how muchh rears lifted. wrote to memory, checked with read all and new settings were saved. Tried the goto high profile button but nothing happened so started her up and sent to std then back to high. waited for light to stop flashing, measured and got 490,510,455,470.
Should i have just wrote the live heights read after i lowered her to 490 all round to memory? My worry was the 148 being so high which is why i didnt. i think all the different readings and measurements and maybe the fumes as i did this in my warehouse may have just peppered my head a bit. on the plus side though, my compressor overhaul was a success.:clap2:
I recently read somewhere that i should have exited the software and restarted it between swapping tabs or can give innacurate results.
Any thoughts are appreciated.

First off, to freeze the suspension, you open a door, no need to turn the engine off. Secondly you should not be getting in and out of the car when doing calibration, it will affect the readings. Thirdly, the numbers will never match corner to corner, The important thing is the measured height wheel centre to wheel arch. Finally, you can only adjust the height values between fairly close limits, go over or under on any one and the ECU will revert to default settings.
You can use the height tab to adjust the corners to the correct measured heights and then read the heights and write them back, however I do not do it that way. I send the suspension to the height I wish to adjust, I then measure the physical heights, I then adjust each corner in small steps (max 5) and re measure until it's correct. Not forgetting adjusting any one corner will affect all others due to weight transfer.
There will be as much as a 5 point difference across an axle when the heights are correct due to the lack of sensor accuracy.
You are correct, FL is front left, RL rear left.
After you have the physical height perfect, move the suspension up or down and it will never return to exactly the same height, +/- 5mm is OK.

cheers but i know FL is front left etc. my point was is that from sitting in the car or from standing in front of it facing it. I know I may appear a bit lacking in mechanical knowledge but come on, credit me for some intelligence, please.:p

Sitting in the car.

ok. thanks for the clarification, albeit rather patronising, back to the questions.:D any ideas why the goto profile button has no effect? I turned the engine off after lifting to connect and start the software. or is it ok to use the software with the engine running? And lastly, is what i read about restarting the software between tab changes true?

Are you getting the green Good Idle? You can connect with or without the engine running but the key must be in position 2 for the software to operate.. No need to restart the software between changing tabs, actually no need to change tabs either.

Try youtube, just type in Range rover P38 RSW eas softwear, you can watch a video on how to use the softwear and wot hight settings to use, might be the easy way to get your head round it, hope this helps. :D:D
