driving to an mot

the distance is about what you can justify.. if you have been storing your vehicle away from where you live then you would be justified in driving it from where you stored it to a garage near your home for the test / repairs... even if that was from john o'groats to lands end...

the rules only actually apply to the MOT though and not the tax so not sure how you would stand if the dvla got you with one of their cameras... it's one of those things where the old bill would let you off, the DVLA would try and nail you to the wall with your own dick

also the vehicle has to be roadworthy - in other words it has to be ready to pass the MOT... try driving to the end of the road with a coupla bald tyres and say you're off for your MOT and the cozzer'll do you for the tyres regardless of the MOT...

insurance is a must but don't forget your insurance may well be invalid if there is no MOT so you would need to check every word of your policy or give them a ring and see what they say about it...

personally the only time I would even consider it is if the test centre was nearby and there was a damn good reason why I couldn't do the MOT before it ran out (like the vehicle had been off the road for months for example)... there are too many fookers out there who want to part you from your hard earned pennies and driving licence to risk it otherwise

Yep, that fits in with everything I remember from my DVLA days (thankfully a few years ago now!) *especially* the bit about them using even the slightest excuse to drag someone over the coals. Bunch of clueless, self-important idiots on the whole!

I aint gonna argue with that. The sooner they learn the laws instead of make bollocks up the better.

:( :( :(

I had this a few years ago with my Mazda 323. Insured it for the day, booked in for MOT, got a few hundred yards down the road and the copper pulled me over. I am sure he had a tip off or something! Copper was on some sort of power trip, telling me I did not have insurance and I was lying about taking it to an MOT....my car was a heap and destined for the scrap yard (how DARE he!). So fine...gave him the number for Adrian Flux...but of course being a Saturday he was on hold for 20 minutes then he gave up lol!
