One week of ownership and my 2.6 v6 auto is in the garage !
I noticed the temp go sky high pulled over and the expansion tank is emty with cream coloured snot left behind the heater is blowing cold, but not water in the oil, the garage said to replace the oil cooler ( engine still running sweet ) but added it may not be the cooler but worth trying first,is there anyone out there who can advise me before I tell him to plod on and spend my hard earned cash:eek:

hi, obviously with the little info you have given me its a little hard to hit the nail on the head but i would think you have a head gasket issue or liner sealing problems as this engine is a v6 variant of the k series 1800 and the 1800 is notorious for water problems.
It will probably end up being a heads off job, pressure test and skim them and measure liner heights to work out what is actually causing the problem if there is no external leak of fluid. Which ever its not a cheap job unfortunately.
 
take it down to any local MOT garage and get them to stick their Co2 sensor for testing emission into the expansion tank. (not into the water obviously), with the engine running. If you have head gasket failure the reading should be on the high side.

Does sound like HGF unfortunately. If you just bought this I would be taking it back for a refund if possible. If you catch it eary you can get away with just replacing the head gasket itself. Cheap parts but a bit labour intensive hence the £300 - £500 bill you might be facing....
