Fitted new slave cylinder due to seals gone now F@#ked if I can get it to bleed up! have had 2 bottles of fluid through system, tried back bleeding with a oil can filled with brake fluid, left it to gravity bleed while topping up reservoir and still no luck............what next ???????

back bleeding clutch from front brake means to connect a suitable pipe to the front caliper's bleed nipple, open the nipple let the pipe to fill with fluid, connect it to the slave cylinder's bleed nipple, open it and push the brake pedal several times... top up the reservoir and let it open... this way the pressure out of the brake system will push back the fluid in the clutch system and the air leaves the system through the reservoir as it's common...if you see what i mean

if this trick will not work and the master cylinder is old you need a new master cylinder too as it's old seals could'nt manage the back pressure of the new slave cylinder's seals...it happens

Did you fit a new push rod.are you sure its clipped into fork .i tried to back bleed with oil can to no avail.bought a hand pump and reverse bled and that took nearly 2 bottles.they are sods to bleed and it dont help with bleed nipple on top.

Push rod stayed on fork, didn't remove rod. You have made me think now, when I put new slave cylinder in the pipe is at the top and the nipple is at the bottom, can't remember now which way it was before I took it off ????????? Bugger. But thinking nipple should be at the top when looking at it from the front of car?????

my grandad told me a trick i tried it and it worked a treat, depress your clutch over night for a min of 12 hours best to leave it 24hrs, i just wedged a piece of wood between my seat rail and clutch pedal, worked a treat

Thanks for that SF, I was being lazy in my reply and should have gone into more detail about back bleeding from the front brake.

oh bugger, best change it round and give it another go, what a T#@T.

Thanks all

Even with the nipple on the top you still need to get the front of the car as high as possible as the the cylinder faces down very slightly.

And if it makes you feel better, when I was trying to bleed my clutch, it took half an hour of my brother pumpimg the pedal as I was shouting " up ", down " as I was undoing/doing up the bleed nipple, only to find that I was getting NO fluid out. My bro kept saying that the pedal was really hard no matter if the nipple was open or closed. In the end I got the rag on and asked him to show me how hard he was pressing the pedal, the plum was only pumping the brake pedal !!!.

Good luck.

Wow, think I would of lost rag to and thrown teddy along way to.

We'll have turned slave round, nipple at the top, struggled with pipe as nut won't turn but got it done, gravity bleed, back bleed with oil can then had missis in car in dressing gown and slippers pumping the pedal and bleeding the old fashioned way, pedal came back, road tested and up to now good road test, all gears including reverse and stalls ok so up to now all ok, just got a little fluid dripping of bottom of bell housing, think this is out of old slave when seals went.

Thanks for all the help and input.

Well second road test and all fine, no drips either after removing plug in bottom of bell housing.

That's it, another late night finish but all done.

If you can get access to a pressure bleeder (gunsons eezi bleed or similar) it should make it easier - especially with the front of the disco well raised. Worked well on ours after i'd given up trying to bleed manually.

Tried one bleeder but was only screw top for resevoir, ordered a sealey pressure bleeder VS020 which should be coming today so will have one for the future for the disco or the fender 90
