Hi got the beep 35mph max warning today . Replaced rear air springs 3 months ago. How do I check if it's the compressor or front bags or any ideas what else I can check. Don't want to replace everything and find out its the last thing I replace that's caused the fault. The car is driving ok but no suspension . Cheers for any help

Nah when I drove away this morning all seemed ok then it started to bleep then all the height lights started flashing and then went solid and the 35mph warning came on. I have already got the reset tool I bought it when I bought my rear air bags just in case but never used it. I'm pretty hopeless at mechanics ( guess your thinking why did u buy a p38 then) so called a mechanic guy I use and taking it into him tomorrow will take the reset tool too. He said he will check it over see if he can see any splits in the front bags as they were on the way out when he did the rear . Is it easy to reset the fault using the tool thing I bought even if only to get the compressor working so he can maybe diagnose the root cause of the problem.?

When you say reset tool, is it an EAS kicker or cable and software called EAS unlock you have? the kicker should reset it but the software from Datatek is the best as you can see and rectify the faults and change any bits needing changed rather than just clear the faults and wait for it to happen again(which is the all the kicker will do).
Datatek is the man on EAS stuff. :)

The tool I have is a cd disc with cables plugs into your laptop and port under the glove box I think. As I said I have never used it so any tips would be great .i bought it off eBay last November. I'm sure u can adjust the heights on each air bag etc.

Yes it will read the fault codes and display them for you. Once you find out what they are put them on here and one of the wise ones will, i'm sure guide you from there.Or if it's simple enough i will help.
You will be able to clear the fault/s and hopefully get the car back in the air then go from there.Don't be put off as i have been where you are and for not a lot of money and some great help on this site i now has a very sorted car which i am proud of-until the next beep-.Here to help mate just ask ;)

I love the car bought it as a winter car to get me to work and guess what no snow this year haha typical. Mrs said to get rid of it but I love it and with 173.000 on the clock I'm expecting some problems but with a site like this it helps keeps the cost of repair down so much knowledgable people to help. Just noticed your from Ayrshire I'm in Blairgowrie .are there many of us scots forum members?

There's a few Scots on here, not all in Scotland mind you, but a very helpful crowd of guys.I only bought mine in Dec as my daily driver after driving Beemers for 10 years with an old Disco 200tdi in the middle somewhere.Even with it's problems i just love the P38.Hope you enjoy yours as much once you get it the way you want it .

Ok pluggen in the EAS software today managed to get it spaking to the car no problem. I clicked the reset fault and car started to rise however front driver side never moved that much , i heard the compressor working away. the height settings switch on the dash was flashing as normaly would when its moving up from parked to noral height.as soon as i hit stop on the program the four light all lit up stayed on then got the beep beep 35 mph on the dash.I then tried again and the same as ihave just written happend again.I went to the tab where you can manualy adjust the heights clicked the get heights and to be honest the heights were all over the place some at zero some at 7 some at 14 .too confused so closed it all down and decided to write on here for help.anyone know what to do next?

If one corner is not rising you have a problem. Don't even think about changing any settings until you sort the problem out. If you have a duff sensor or a leak. Sort that first. If the car won't rise properly where do you expect the height readings to be.

Okies this was bugging me so went back out to the car went overit all again to write down any fault codes .fired up the pc and software run the program and no faults found car came right up. Went to read the settings and this time totally different all the settings were thereno zeros in any box however high setting fl =154 fr=150 rl=133 rr =128 and it's similar in all setting both Fr have a bit of a difference between the settings as do the rear how much of a difference should there be between right and left on the same height setting ?

Settings have different parameters front to rear, settings can vary side to side, if the car is level all is good. Your settings are normal.

Okies thanks for the info wammers only time car does not sit level is when it's parked on a bit of an up slope it seems to sag down at the rear passengers side that why I replaced the rear air bags last November but it never cured it it still does it . Now at least I have the hard fault off I'm gonna take it to my mechanic and get him to check the front bags as they were not replace when I did the rears but he said at the time they will need replaced soon so may e the time has come to do it.

Unless they have a leak, bags won't cause that, sensors will.
