Folks,
my 03 defender f/n/s door won't slam shut properly. It closes onto the first retainer but then, from the outside, needs a bit of a shove. I'm sure the answer probably lies with fettling about with some sort of adjustment.
I've lubed it up but that hasn't fixed it.
Anyone know the answer or point to a link before I end up dismantling the wrong bits!

I reckon the door has dropped or worn on its hinges, you could try re aligning the pin on the rear tub where the door latches . Mabe try it slightly lower mabe 1mm see if that helps. 90's/110's hinges are crap they wear out unlike the older Pre series III's where the brass balls could be replaced.

How well does it open? I once over adjusted the latch release mechanism on the inside and the door wouldn't close because the latch was staying open. It's a simple thing to check. Door card off and then there's a couple of bolts on a sliding joint that you can adjust.

Mine used to av that problem cos the door cards weren't fixed tight on the doors (the crappy snap clips were all broke) and were fouling against the side of the seat box when u closed it. worth a check. Some big self tappers sorted it.

Have a look at the striker plate and make sure that the plastic damper on it hasn't split. If it has this can often cause the door to not shut properly. Unfortunately you can't slot a new plastic tube onto it so a new striker will be required.
