i have just been going thru the log book for my v8 disco (yep im that sad) and iv found that the vin states it is a 1990 not a 1989 ? .yet it was first reg'd 24 11 1989. also the log book only tells me the engine is a 27G, nowt else ,i do know it is a low comp. could any one tell me if this was a common prob with early disco paperwork.

I'm no expert, but I do know that if you buy a new car towards the end of the year you usually get next years spec.......which would tie in with what you have said.

Yeah it could be a 1990 model year.

Has it got a grainy tailgate handle for instance? The very early ones were smooth.

Etc.

I have two discos, an H and a J, both the engine numbers are complete, but the prefix doesn't exist if you search for parts etc.

Bit vague I guess!

Nothing wrong there, the VIN plate gives the model year which for a 1990 model is GA which would have been on sale from around August 1989.
My disco was sold in September 1997 with the 1998 models also in the showrooms.

A 27G engine is a 3.5 with carbs and manual gearbox. You would normally get the engine number on the reg document, perhaps that what happened in 1989 but I don't see it as a problem.

similar is mine, i found a stamp in the compartment under the wheel marked sept. 1999 and the vin is with Y(2000) ...... i didnt bother with it.

Don't know about Land Rover but Rover cars up until Leyland take over used to change the Model in August. My 1939 Rover 10 was made in November 1938. Rover changed the tooling and production line in August during the factory fortnight holiday.
