Hi Guys

Has anyone an idea on this problem. Driving in slow moving traffic i am getting what seems to be the ABS kicking in when braking gently at less than 5mph. the ABS lamp comes on and stays on for a while and on occasion the Brake warning lamps and TC lamp come on but go out once ignition turned off then on. Today it happened several time but in addition to the 3 lamps above I get 3 more lamps coming on the HDC failure lamp (amber) the self levelling suspension lamp (amber) and the off road lamp (amber). these three new one go off when ignition turned off/on
Front hub bearings replaced 12 months ago, new tyres 6 months ago. All runs fine above 5MPH
Any ideas ??

Halsec - sounds more like an electrical fault. I'd start by checking the earth - behind headlight on earlier models but according to previous post behind gluv box on others. When mine went (1999 model) it was always just as the car came to a halt as you describe. This seems to be when the sensors give out dodgy signals. in my case it was the SLABS ecu - fairly common problem on the early models. On mine the lights came on and stayed on. Looks like on the later models they can self reset. At one stage I had 4 lights on but I've not come across 6! Don't know how old yours is, but if it's an early one I'd suspect the ecu.

Should already have the new ecu then. If not the earth, mosty likely cause is a sensor. Get it hooked up to Testbook or similar and have the codes read.

This one could be a faulty sensor/sensor wiring(for the ABS part).....if it is, the scanner will tell u which one u must replace. the tester will enlight u about the SLS fault too ....... or mr. PARTMASTER is right about the ECU.

ok this happened to me in france a few years back it happens on extremely warm days i asked a fellow disco owner on the site and he had the same prob you will find as it cools down they will go out (i had all the warning lights lit up) if they dont then tres expensive

Yeah I noticed it happens more on a warm day. A lot these past two days 26c today
Mmmmmmmm I've boycotted my local 4x4 workshop since they buggered my trusty steed a few weeks ago. would a nanocom or similar show up the sensor locations thinking about buying one anyway !

Definetly YES, untill then u can take a multimeter and check the resistance of the sensors: unplug them and measure on the pins of the sensor's plug... it must be between 950 - 1100 Ohm each. But if the fault is intermittent that might not be a conclusive diagnose...unless u find a sensor with a very different resistance.......though the best is to plug in a tester... it'll show u the real problem. An "air gap too large" fault could be generated by a thread wheel hub also.

hey guys and gals i have 4 lights on my dash handbrake warning light,ABS,TC, and down hill decent but they have only come on since i have put a 2" lift on enyone ever had this before ??

The esay way is to read the fault codes... otherwise it will be quite hard(besides that red warning is not just for handbrake, it's the general brake warning, goes together with the 3 amigos sometimes... albeit if it should be there all the time) watch below and decide if u want to diagnose this without tester

Have you changed the brake hoses for longer ones? if so & not properly bled the braking system then there will be air in the ABS unit which will defo trigger 3 amigos, Supposed to be bled on Testbook but if you keep at it the air does eventually come out.

I had this, plugged into diagnostic equpment. came up abs sensor. changed sensor with one purchased of ebay [about £20 new]This cleared abs,tc and hilldecent lights

Hello all, Im on my second landy and have an ABS problem again. This time I new it was the left hand sensor as I damaged the cable when changing the ARB. I have changed the sensor and the lights went out. Took the car for a drive and all was ok for a mile then the lights came on again. They stay on all the time which to me indicates a permanent fault. My sensor is reading 1Kohm so now think somthing else is faulty.
Sierrafery, thank you for the chart this is very help full. Does aby one have the pin layout going into the SLAB as this seems an easy place to test the sensors and relay etc:
Also any one tested the new Amigo ABS tester. thinking of buying one as this is the third time on two landy that i've had this fault. Going to the dealers is to expensive. is this a good tool or the nanocom which is more expensive but seems it can do more. Any help would be great:)

The ABS amigo is too expensive for what it does... IMO nanocom or hawkeye is the best investment... cos it's about double the price but it does everything, nanocom more than hawkeye at that stage

thanks I was thinking the same, I can get the amigo for £200 and the nanocom for £300. the hawkeye is £600, wife won't agree with that. Any one use the Nanocom and if so if it easy to down load the codes. I've also been told that you need codes to unlock the nano to a particula landy. I am new to this type of tool so any help would be great.
