Hi everyone, I have just done a camber corrective bushes replacement on my discovery, I noticed while supporting the axel on stands some ball bearings appeared on the floor (6 in total )
They were under my steering box (power steering ), so I turned my steering and yuk! No way oh bugger! Needed more effort to turn and felt rough not smooth as it did before
So I belive they are from my steering box? Now this is where I could do with a cut away diagram of the steering box, has any one got one please?
Next question is this something I can redo (repair ) While in situ? .
Looks like I should of loosened the steering :(
Has anyone had their steering box apart?
Where about would the bearing balls come from as they clearly fell out easily
Many thanks
Dave

Why not just Google to find a diagram, as I just did for U, there’s more than a few to be found so help your self. As u can see from the attached diagram there two ball races fitted.
Also among others my guick search shows that recon boxes are available from Paddock’s.

the only ball bearings are supporting input shaft, hard to see how they could appear on the floor but strange things can happen any pics of balls and a size guide

+1 - and a general pic of what you have done pls ..... All seems a bit strange :confused:o_O

Good afternoon Gentlemen, I will try to explain the best way I can. The ball bearings are approximately 5mm diameter (don't know how to put photo of them up) yes I'm a techno phobe. They do seem large.
I can't see where they might be from
Aghhhhhhhhh

Input shaft bearings maybe? But there would be a lot of oil on the deck and you'd be missing a seal I think.

Can it be the bearings from the bottom of the steering column where it passes through the bulkhead?

Hi Nigel, if it's not one thing it's another aghhhhhh, the price we pay for our love of the landy dream. I will heck that out, no oil only 6 six little 5mm balls that were dry not wet and not greasy? Bloomin f sugar.
