Got a problem with SRS light on plugged hawkeye in & it told me this (B1006 short circuit to ignition in driver airbag circuit permanent ) can anybody please help with what it is can't find anything on here or google . It's a 2002 discovery 2 td5

it's exactly what the fault code says, a short on that circuit or within the airbag module itself, to isolate the fault unplug the airbag(clear the initial fault) and plug hawkeye again...if you get open circuit the short is in the bag module if still short you must start tracing it along the circuit...if you have RAVE i can guide you but without it it's hard for me cos you need the connector views and i dont liuke to upload all the involved images

Thanks for that I already did what you said & it was what you said just wanted to confirm it was airbag before I got new one thanks again

Just a update got a resistor 2.2 ohm of e bay fitted it cleared code & light went out but then it came back took resistor out code said open circuit don't no what it can be now

but did you read the code with the resistor connected? is it short too? cos afaik for D2 it must be between 3 and 5 ohm to consider it good

Yes I read it with resistor & same as code with airbag in. Do you think I need bigger one ?? Thanks for quick response sierrafery
Kevin

yes, i knew once exactly how much is the resistance range for D2 to not throw a fault code but it was in a computer which's hard burned out and i forgot:mad:... dont you have a friend to borrow a 10ohm variable resistor and work with that step by step untill the light goes out on an ignition cycle... if not this one might be closer to the proper one Universal Air Bag Fused Resistor Kit 4.2 Ohm X1, Removal, Delete New | eBay

I'm not to good on auto electrics so it takes a short time to understand things so I will try the simple way first & get a bigger resistor lol thanks for now I will let you know what happens. Kevin

Just to update got a bigger resistor 4.5 ohm but still the same any body have any idea what I can try next please

i can't say more than i've already said with the variable resistor... just confirm again: do you get short circuit fault code with airbag plugged in and open circuit with it unplugged?

according to the symptoms it seems very like the air bag or it's circuit .... which plug did you disconnect and plugged the resistance in, that red/orange one in the compartment under the steering wheel or direct the airbag's plug from the back of the module?

it's strange that you didnt get closed circuit fault code too there as iirc that plug must have a shorting clip in it, maybe you closed it when you pushed the resistor in... try at C0257(attached), unplug that one and read the code... if you get open circuit code plug the resistor there in the female side(i dont remember well but this one might have a shorting clip too)

i must ask again just to be 100% sure cos it's strange, do you get OPEN CIRCUIT fault code with the airbag unplugged?

then try with the resistor in that red plug and if no joy you need something like this, 25W 10 Ohm High Power Wirewound Potentiometer Rheostat Variable Resistor | eBay (normally it doesnt have to be so powerfull but i didnt find at least 2w at the same resistance)... it's middle pin and one side connected into the plug and turn it 1mm at once untill the light goes out then remove it measure it's resistance and put a small equivalent resistor there... you'll need to turn on/off the ignition each time... but what you want to do actually to fix the thing or just turn off the light?

If I can fond out it is airbag I will get a new one but I don't want to get one if it's not got till next May till MOT so no rush. Going to Peterborough land rover show next month may just get a used one & see thanks for you help sierrafery let u know what happens Kevin

Got in disco today & light has gone out fingers crossed. Got a variable resistor as well never mind expect I will need it.
