Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone could help me on deciding what to pay for a disco 2.
Im in the market for one and there is a dealer offered 2003 near me td5 with 93k, fsh and 7 seat. Its £5750 which having looked at it, seems a lot? The chassis is covered in surface rust, not bad but not as good as my old s3! Door tops had rusted bits, few scratches and a dog smell inside. Is that the going rate for something like this? It seemed a lot to me!

We just sold a very tidy 51 plate td5 GS 80k for 4995

They are going up because they are better than D3s

You can give 10-11k IN THE TRADE for a low mileage metropolis etc

Blummin crazy prices sometimes pal but they only sell for what people are paying remember.

Cheers.

Too much, just got a 2003 Discovery 2, Diesel with 102,000 full history, including a DVD player, side steps spot lights, ok the dvd has an electrical fault, but paid just £4000. 7 months MOT with 2 months road tax. I think if you look around, an desperate the crap, then there are bargains out there/Pete.

Cheers, this one had the dvd and all that but also has the dodgy 3 spoke alloys. Sounds to be on the steep side then. I will keep looking. Clutch felt hard to me too, no new one listed on service book so assuming that may be in the post.
Its a shame the d3 was crap, means buying a used disco is tough!
Thanks again

The price is ok if it was in nice condition.
If the chassis only has surface rust then thats good, some have totally rusty chassis.
Plenty of D2's around, check e bay although you may have to travel to get the good one you want.
Imo if its got a tatty body with scratches and marks it would mean to me it has not been well looked after, look for complete service or better lots of receipts for work done.

Hi all,

GOing to see a 2002 td5 later with 96k on the clock, 8 month MOT and 4 months tax. Its a 7 seat but no history, coil conversion with SLS light on. But no sunroof, looks to be in good nick with a waxoyled chassis.

No SH makes me wary, would I be mad to pay over £4k for this? I would be looking to buy nanocom or similar to sort the lights or would someone turn the light off at a specialist?

Any thoughts would be really appreciated!

THanks

id check chassis especially on inner sides ,waxoyl is often used to hide problems, light could be turned off if you bought your own kit hawkeye nanocom etc

I paid £2,300 for my 2000 TD5 GS manual on coils about 18 months ago. It came with fsh and 120k on the clock. If I were selling today (130k on clock) I think I would be very lucky to get £2k for it. Many similar D2's go for a lot less but I think that all depends where you live.

I'm having trouble selling mine for £3500
It's a V8 so I no it's not everyone's cup of tea but it's been good to me
I'm only selling as I have to (needs funds)
And that's a 2003

Just had a look, guy very kindly brought it over to me. I'm so caught up in my wife giving birth any day and rushing around like a mad thing I forgot to take it for a test drive.... What a tw#t!

Anyway, it did have history when I looked in the book; about 8 stamps up to 78k (on 97 now). Tried to get it to blow cold on the climate control but no joy, couldn't see an AC button?

After resting for 5 mins after shutoff the oil level was still below the bottom level.... not sure what that was all about?

Leeking something from the bundle of pipes running near the sill, ACE system the bloke said? Fluid had no odour?

On springs at rear, no rear step on it either (7 seat). No light on dash but guy said it appears sometimes?

Ripped seat bolster and on rear edge.

BUT it was immaculate to be fair (bar seat) and the engine ran sweet (yes it had just done 150 miles and was hot), but it wasn't overheating or anything and it sounded sweet. Chassis had been waxoled a few years ago by the looks and it was peeling away, but chassis was ok, rusty to the surface but appeared solid with no patches I could see. It had a full stainless exhaust with de-cat and a resonator in its place. EGR had been blocked off as well (guy was a mechanic).

Obviously pending a test drive :fish: I'm unsure, but it was very tidy looking disco. I've looked at what the book would be and I think its worth £3.9k tops. He wants a bit more than that for it though.

Should I gamble? If I take it for a drive, what should I look for in terms of clutch going?

Many thanks all

There is no "air con" button, there is a ECON button (economy) press that, if ECON is NOT displayed on the digital temperature screen then the climate control/air con is ON.

Oil level is slightly worrying, check that. Sure it was on level ground?

ACE(active cornering enhancement) is a great hydraulic system and works very well when new but all the D2's with it are getting old. Pipes corrode, leak and costs lots of £££ to repair. Some get shot of the whole system and put tradition roll bars on.
I would steer clear if it's leaking ACE unless it was very cheap.....

In terms of clutch just check its not slipping in any of the gears and doesn't bite really high up.

Cheers Rob the '3 amigos' lit and then went off on startup. The ACE block appeared to be leaking on doing some googling, looks like too much hassle for me to tackle. I'm pretty sure we had econ switched on so msybe thats why it didnt blow cold. I must say im tempted for a punt but im scared from reading horror stories online. Stupid internet......
A good alternative would be a rustless mint disco 1 for sub £2.5k I reckon. They do exist....maybe....

That's good ref the 3amigos.
Beware of expensive bill for ACE as it's leaking or just bin the lot (like I did with my D2, Then no more issues approx £2-300 DIY)
Test drive it and see what you think. Very different from a D1!
Does seem a little pricey to me considering it's faults.
U got a link to the actual car?

I would like to sell mine for £2500 for my upgrade :)
133000, 30/10 mot, snorkel, difflock, at tyres, new parts here and there, ALL oils recent. Runs great, genuine reason for sale like I said.
I love this td5 but a possible chance of a nice d3 at a good price. Will know by Tuesday at the latest if it is still available.

i am having all those problems lsited above in my disco 2 w reg
3 amigos - one of the abs sensors faulty, from 60 to 150 quid for a new part + labour OR you can obv do it yourself if you are a diy man
ace leak - system itself is brilliant but pipes get rusty and valve block underneath driver's side leaks. new pipes, seal etc could cost up to 1000 pound, several people got quoted that region
little bit rust on the chassis especially the rear bit but no holes

i say dont spend anything over 3k for the best looking car and make sure ACE is "NOT" leaking at all, system pressure goes up to 135 bar in which case small leak will def get bigger and bigger i.e got 3 complaints already from the building manager, too much oil on the floor:rolleyes:)

A lottery comes to mind, most are now 10+ years old, so are gonna have problems, ive an 04 pursuit, nearly had it 2 year, musta spent a grand on it doing everything to get it right, but since last August it goes like a train, i would set off and go anywhere in it, good MPG since being mapped, chassis i cleaned up, oyled etc, had a couple of panels sprayed for plastering a wall or 2, i would say ive about 5.5 k in it, but better than 30k and an AA membership you would need, my advice, look and look harder and get a manual, less to go wrong,
