Disco 2 Disco 2 Motorway speed

My Disco 2 TD5 is in good health and has a remap from dynachip but I only use it locally for bobbing about. The family is going down to Cornwall from Yorkshire and the Disco would offer more space to wife's 3 series BMW. I realize this is a bit of a daft question but as I never use it on the motorway what kind of cruising speed to people generally feel their car is happy at? I'm happy if it will sit 75 to 80 where conditions allow but am I asking too much. Think I'm still scarred by my series 3 diesel which was flat out at 50!

I drive from Essex to Scotland at least twice a year with 5 people luggage and canoe and windsurfer on the roof and yes it will happily do that

Your TD5 will cruise at that speed,all day long,especially after that re map by Mike,he knows his stuff.

I find such a question quite baffling. Have you not driven your own vehicle???

Thanks for the reassurance gents. Clearly no one else seems to have a problem understanding the issue but I will explain it again. I never use the car on the motorway as I have another vehicle. Its a long way from Yorkshire to Cornwall in a 15 year old car and I don't want to hammer it so I was asking opinions from those with more experience of long motorway journeys. Yes I have driven it but not on the motorway.

I've had a number of TD5's both auto and manual and I can say hand on heart that they are an excellent long-distance tourer.I choose to run at about 70 mph as it's a good blend of getting places, without burning too much fuel.

They are a big solid cruiser,you will have no trouble in driving it that distance,especially with it having the mod done to it,

I drive my Disco 2 td5 from Devon to York regularly sometimes full of gear sometimes not.Its about 330 miles door to door and i sit at an easy 78/80 to stay just under the radar and it copes with that without any problems at all.Mine has big tyres on it 2"lift and is auto .I use less than a tank to get there.It is a very safe comfortable drive and easy if you have cruise control.I am sure you would have a great drive down to the south in yours.

ps I have also booted it and it can comfortabley cope with 80's 90's plus~ mine is 15 years old Xreg with 180,000 miles on the clock

There's some brave people about, I tend to get worried that something will break above 60mph

Mine happily sits at 80-85 (according to sat nav) but I tend to keep it at 60-65 for fuel economy. Gear box gets stiff after a long run on the motorway so I really need to change the oil ASAP though.

it'll play with it, dont forget to stop for a coffee, lift the bonnet, have a look around, check oil and water and off again. i go to cornwall twice a year from yorkshire fully stacked in my 300 and never no bother,,, Sh** wish i hadn't said that, but i always stop and give it time to chillax then a quick check and off again..
oh don't try offing on the beach the locals will cut your nay nays off, then hand you to the police lol

i'm driving it 750 miles twice a month, on motorways i keep it at 80 constantly and lately there were +40*C outside then uphill the coolant temp went up to 100* and cooled downhil to 85 within 1 minute(retrofitted coolant gauge).... when i floored it uphill got EGT up to 650 and while cruising at 80 around 350 ... if you retrofit at least a digital coolant gauge but even better an EGT too and you can see that they are within safe limits you can drive it as hard and as long as you wish without any fear.

Cheers gents you were right. It cruised at 70 all the way, apart from the many contraflows of course, and strayed to 75-80 where conditions allowed. A great sized boot, raised driving position big comfy seats remind me why I love it. only fault was the drivers door stay has come undone a little, its the bit on the body so needs a weld but it will be sorted.

Ours does the 240 mile trip from Bedfordshire to Tenby several times a year. Cruising at 75-80 on the M3 is no problem, unless you have a straight through front pipe, in which case your ears will ring afterwards..........

I tend to find 60-65 is best not because it can't do more but because of too much wind noise.

just back from Scotland (Aboyne, Aberdeenshire) to Rye, East Sussex. Straight run at 70-80mph apart from congestion jams. She ran well (Td5 manual) on GM AT2s in some blistering sunshine when back South. However, my Aircon seems to have packed up. Seems it couldn't stand the heat!

WTF you doin' on the M3 if you're s'posed to be goin' to Tenby?

Sorry pal, am a bit of a slow driver , take it easy at 60/ 65 mph, chill out

I do have straight through pipe but noise was better than the kids fighting in the back.
