Hi Guys

some advice please on changing my drive belt, just noticed this weekend it's showing cracking accross the belt teeth?

Just some credible advice on how to change it and the procedure involved.

Any advice would be appreciated as always.

Thanks Guys

Spanner on the tensioner, release tension on the belt, remove belt. Assembly is the reverse of dis-assembly .. ;)

Oh yeah and don't make the classic mistake of fitting the belt the wrong route over the top of the alternator, make a diagram first if you don't have a manual/rave!

LOL .. I heard of someone local who loosened the tensioner and put the new belt on without taking the old off. The plan being he'd cut off the old belt and that he 'knew' he'd got it right way round, proper route etc ...

Guess which one he cut off when he'd finished .. ;)

So was the chap I heard about .. I guess he didn't split the old belt first .. ;)

Hi Guys

Thank for the advice, a jobe for the weekend while the weather holds?

I am at 82k I think it should have been replaced sooner, that said I have only had to replace 3 batteries and 3 alternators, and 1 set of tyres with 5mm still on the tread at 60k, so I think I have been lucky so far.

So my thanks to those who provided the advice I was looking for.

Cheers Guys

Dead easy job in removing the old belt but the new one is like a spring, put it on one pully and it jumps of the other and you are still holding off the tension pully with one hand, all good fun I did mine last year at 12 years old.

There are two serp belts for the V8 so make sure get the right one, so take the part number of the existing belt and if you suffer from short term memory loss make notes on the route of the belt. :)

memorise or take notes, If in doubt you can see which pulleys are smooth and should be up against the back of the belt and which ones are grooved and should sit on the inside of the belt. if grooves arent in grooves and smooth isnt on smooth youve made a mistake. really straightforward job with the right long spanner for leverage. Just take the fan cowl off 1st.
