i guess mine doesn't have them, then! :D

odd though... previous years had them, later years had them, RRC had them, but the few Disco models in between didn't! I wonder why??
 
oh no... not another never ending thread....

save time take it to garage, get them to do brakes and ask to look at the box the new pads came in, ffs!!!

"another never ending thread"... Yup looks that way 5 pages so far... it's amazing just for rear brake pads haven't these posters got any thing better to do?... it' a disgrace... it shouldn't be allowed :D
 
job done! :D:D:D:D:D

unbelievably easy to be honest.

Wire brush and screwdriver to clean it all, split pins out, spring clips out, one pad out, caliper cleaned & squeezed in, copper grease to back of new pad and pad in, other pad out, caliper cleaned and squeezed in, copper grease to back of other new pad and pad in, spring clips back on, split pins back in and bent over, engine started and brake pedal pressed several times before going on a successful test drive! :D

I noticed some slight "pulsing" through the brake pedal after i'd driven a mile or two, but after 3 or 4 miles or so it went away. actually, it went away after I did a long brake from 65 to zero at a roundabout.

As for the old pads... they weren't low at all. they were non existant! One pad had 3mm or so left, but the others all had less than 1mm. Two of them were actually down to the metal on the inside edge! The discs looks OK though... they were lightly scored, but had plenty of metal left on them, and the surface was smooth.

Also, given that the new pads went in nice and easy, but with no play in them it suggests that the disc wasn't thinner than it should be.

So anyway, we'll see how it goes!

£110 from a garage, £20 having done it myself! Well... a little more because I had to buy some grease, but we'll ignore that.

Oh, and I took a couple of pics and a time lapse video! I'm sad, I know. It's kinda interesting to me though, all this. I'll upload the stuff soon.

I grease the pins before putting back to try and slow down the corrosion and let the pad clips slide a bit easier
 
Good point about greasing the pins... copper grease, I presume!

Might redo that part just to regrease then, given how quick it is!

And as for being a dab hand with the spanners, I've always been a relatively practical person anyway, just not with mechanics!! :D
 
This could go on for ever,wait till he finds out that his motor has disc brakes on the front.cheers elt.

But not a torque wrench for those alloy wheel nuts, where is it? to be correct you should have used one.:)
 
But it's go to be a bit more interesting than the thread 'Which sealant?'

so i'm not the only one then :D

and yes - i've done the wiper blades myself, and the headlights, and the intercooler flush, and the EGR valve removal, and the penny trick, and the window ECU soldering.

So i'm not tooooooo stupid. just learning slowly and very paranoid :D
