Brake pads not fitting

I bought a set of new front brake discs for my 2005 freelander td4 also received a set of pads for free problem is the caliper won't go back over the pads
Removed bottom bolt flipped caliper up Removed old pads pushed piston back in ,cleaned up ect they fit on caliper carrier fine the caliper just won't go back down over the pads
I've put the part number on the box In Google search and comes up with freelander 2000/2006 any ideas appreciated

Ok just so I'm reading this right, everything fits together ok but the pads won't fit back over the new discs.

Do you mean the pads are too thick ie there isn't enough space?

looking at this video both bolts are removed, and the piston wound all the way back. The slide pins, behind the rubber cover, comes out and needs greasing every time or it'll seize. May need a clean up if rusted.
Obviously, as in the video, super clean overalls required and super clean work area! Also pre-loosened bolts are a must.

Maybe the disc is too thick, if that is possible, I don't have a Freelander.

No not too thick the pads fit were there supposed to go it's the caliper itself it won't go down enough to fit the bottom slider pin bolt back on to the carrier I think the radius on the pads are too big (the metal part that curves) I will investigate more today

Just watched the video cheers on most of my other vehicles pajero ect I've always removed the bottom bolt and pushed the caliper upwards to clear pad then just removed old ones clean up and grease pins drop caliper back down done, so I will remove top bolt and see if that works, will wash overalls first

Not sure this will apply to you but on a Freelander I was putting pads in I found out why they did not fit was because it had one old calliper ( for the solid disc) not enough room for the pads

I've ordered 2 new calipers so once they arrive I will get on with the job again ,

First ones are the old style right ones are the correct ones

Did you just try and undo the top caliper bolt and lower it then ?

I've had plenty of pads that don't quite fit right. Usually it's a case of filing the metal backing slightly at top & bottom so they slot in properly.

They slot in properly its the caliper that won't drop back over the new pads

Yes Arctic2: that's how I've always done my pajero / shogun

New calipers
