i would do the jack test like somebody has already mentioned. my leaver is very easy to move doesnt clunk but defo works. it sometimes takes a couple of seconds for the lite to come on. just jack up one of the back wheels and drive off very carefully

if you find out it work, you then have the fun of finding out why the light doesn't work.

Id rather be sorting problems out with spanner than soldering iron!

Or slightly more healthy for your jack, don't try driving off it... just spin the wheel by hand!

lol. I guess it might be ok if diff-lock isn't engaged, but if it is, that could be ugly, no matter how carefully you drive it off whilst it's jacked up :)

well its a brand new highlift extreme, so maybe ill just try spinning the wheels around, also im no that botherd if the light doesnt work as half the lights dont work ne ways, and the other half of the lights flash on and off wen im driving along. lol.

you could just put a stand / block under the axle, you axle will cope with that just think about what else they go through.

I use a trolley or bottle jack to do nearly everything on my landrovers, I find my high lift is far to unstable and hard work.

ok, jacked up the back wheel on the landy, and put it into wat i thought was diff lock, (push lever to left and push up) i even held it in place, but the wheel just spins, the linkage is still connected. ne ideas now??? wat the next stage?

it cant be a half shaft cos it must still drive normally. sounds cheaper to find another transfer box from a scrapper and just fit that. save all the messing about. should only take u a couple of hours and a few quid.

LOL dunno as I am at the same point with my Discovery 1996 Auto!
Had it over a pit and moving the stick moves the engageing swivel yet no lock.

I have seen a photo on youtube of it working and I think it may be that it is sticking internally or not moving it enough.

ahh ic, maybe ill just get a mate of mine to look at it, hes **** hot wiv landys, wat he dont know isnt worth knowing, but his on holiday atm, just have toi wait i guess.

I have a stupid qustion for which I apologise. Does the diff lock operate on both axles or just the back? I was recovering a Jaguar last week and my n/s front wheel was spinning even though diff lock was engaged (ie light on).

I am not easily embarrassed so be straight with your comments!

diff lock operates on the centre diff, which means that the the front and rear axles are locked at the same speed. Without diff-lock, if you spin a wheel, then all power from both front and rear goes to that wheel. With diff-lock, you can spin one wheel on each axle. Diff-lock is the same as standard 4wd in an older landy without permanent 4wd.

people are willing to help, but if you're not willing to help yourself (by looking at the workshop manual for example), then why should they bother?
