I had my Disco gear lever out over the holidays and while I was in there I had a play with the diff lock linkage.

All the time I have has the car (nearly a year now) I have never had the diff lock light come on.
The little bolt on top of the linkage was floppy so I tightened that up to minimise play.
Opperating the diff lock lever it pulls the diff lock quadrant off, to the left, OK. It only pushes the quadrant on the transfer box half way when trying to engage the diff lock. The quadrant moves easily when I stick my hand down between the gearbox and the bodywork.
The long bit of linkage that is vertical looks like it could be a bit bent.
Is it supposed to be bent?
If I take it off and bash it straight is that likely to cure it?
What's it called if I want to buy a new one?
Shall I just crawl under and engage the diff lock manually on the very odd occasion I want to use 4WD. No scrap that, it's going to be snow or mud if I need 4WD.

300 tdi ? the vertical lever has a pin that sits through pivot this has or should 2 plastic bushes can be replaced if missing or worn (frc4499) if there okay pivot can be screwed out after undoing lock nut 13mm spanner to adjust the engagement of diff lock ,adjust it so that it goes into diff lock as far as possible but will still pull it out of difflock

Thanks for that James. Yep S reg 300TDi, manual box.

Now I know what I'm looking for I have a better chance of fixing it.

I've been looking for a link to a manual and most of the links on here seem to be broken. I just found the Rave manual, though not much in it about linkages.

I'll have another poke about and see if I need some of them bushes and have a go at adjusting it.

Muchas grassy arse.

:)

EDIT, I just found a pretty picture in the Manual Gearbox section of the Rave manual. Page 404 section 37, I can see the lock nut and adjustmet screw and everything :) .
