As the title says. I just noticed this today while disconnecting the linkage. I'm not sure how it is supposed to operate as this is my first LR with CDL. On my D2 I used to go under the car with a 10mm spanner to engage, good days..

I took a short video of the linkage, if anyone can maybe spot what looks wrong.

No, on a 230 the diff lock is engaged by a short arm that turns a shaft down into the front housing.
Have a look at Britannica restorations on the you tube as how the lt230 works. "setting up high low @difflock"

I was watching that video some hours ago, that's when I noticed that when he moves the lever side to side as if to engage/disengage CDL, that little stud slides in and out of the assembly, which in turn rotates the shaft going downwards. When I move the lever side to side the stud stays still, it's the splined brass bit that comes in and out, the part that the high-low linkage is attached to.

My only guess at the minute is that the high-low linkage should be monster tight on the brass piece, and that will somehow allow me to move the stud? Just a though as when I was testing it in situ, it was way loose and sliding.

I'll post tomorrow if I figure it out.

Hard to see in video but recon you are right in that the high low clamp is moving side to side because the splined shaft it is on is moving, not right. Have a look inside it is that smaller shaft in the center that should move out when lever moved left.
