As the title says, has the 6 cylider diesels got a chain or belt? and at what frequency are they supposed to get changed?

thanks in advance.

jose.

they have a chain.

I was told by my specialist that they generally last the life of the vehicle. They can stretch a little and the timing can drift a bit but this is normal. I think unless you are having specific problems with the engine then I would leave it alone unless anyone else has any other thoughts on this??

sounds good to me!! thats a bit of a releif as i have now taken ownership of the RR and i was a little concerned as there was no mention of a belt change and it has done 99k.
thanks for your reply wills!

I never understood why such a critical part of an engine who's failure can cost hundreds/thousands is ever trusted to little more than a beefed up elastic band.

On a similar note to the OP what is the life of the chain on a 4.6?

If you think that a 'elastic band' is bad, even worse is the fact that all that holds the sprocket on the end if the camshaft is the tension of the bolt!! nothing else at all!!

Whats wrong with that - The old Hercules transport plane only had 4 5/8" bolts holding each engine in.

Hi all,

I changed the timing belt on my range rover vogue recently, however it's got multiple miss fire and the code reader also read 'miss fire on cylinder 6'.
I'm assuming I've knocked the timing out by a tooth or so... Desperately need to get it done by a specialist BUT... I can't find a single place who does it!?!? Strange!?!

Please does anyone know of any place who can time the timing belt, in the West Midlands or even surrounding boroughs??.?

Thank you

If the timing was out surely it would misfire on all cylinders:)

+1.

Does it "feel" like it is misfiring? Tried swapping spark plugs over?

I've got the diesel so not sure what the ignition system is. Is it a DIS pack or is it coil over plug? Check HT lead. If COP then maybe number 6 broke down but I'd start with the cheap stuff.
