Hi,as a newbee to this forum would be very gratefull if some one can advise me on this post.i drive a td5 double cab running on goodrich mt tyres.they have covered 60k and the front 2 are now just on legal limit,my plan was to just renew front 2 with new tyres of same make,as the rear set are only 3 parts worn.
The test guy who has just passed its mot strongly advised me to renew all four boots as putting 2 brand new ones on front may put unequal pressure on drive train/gearbox and possibly cause problems.any views please would be apprieciated..

apart from handling issue ,you should really renew all four with equal tyres as you have 4 equal drive through 3 diffs , diffs will get more work with unequal tyres but would take a long time to show unlike a freelander or rr with viscous coupling were the time to show can be quite short

The general advice these days from tyre manufacturers is that if you are fitting only two new tyres then it's good practice to fit the best/newest tyres on the rear – in wet conditions, this favours understeer rather than oversteer. Also, tyres with deep tread are less likely to puncture and it's more difficult to control a car with a damaged rear tyre.

So if you have the front tyres renewed it's best to have the rear ones moved to the front and the new tyres fitted to the rear. In your case with 3 quarter worn tyres, the tyre fitter probabaly thinks it may be better changing them all - but I'm not paying.:D Particularly as he sells more tyres as well.

I try to swap mine around to keep them all around the same

If it is the old BFG MT pattern you will struggle to find a matching set now anyway

thanks for replies, interesting point about viscous coupling.may have to just bite the bullet and renew all corners, and rotate more often.still dont suppose i can complain 62k on mt tyres over 7 years

Just got to bite the bullet, that's not bad at all!

I'm replacing the front tyres on my non-landy runaround every 10K!

Put the rears on ebay they will make ok money if they are a recognised name or find somone on there and buy 2 for yourself

i currently am running bfg mt 235/85/16
would they be any advantage when replacing ,using 265/75/16 mt. comments on mpg comparison,, and any extra traction advantage on these wider boots, mainly on usually wet steep pasture land. which is where most of my landy use is..feedback from any body using this pattern appreciated..
