Hi all, I have recently bought a sept 2000 TD5 ES with the Harmon Kardon sound system.

It lights up OK, so no code problem, reacts correctly when I use the steering wheel controls, BUT NO SOUND ! Tried turning the volume up and down, no difference.

The model details on the radio/cassette head unit are: ALPINE XQD000110LNF.

Have checked all fuses, nothing blown. IT DOES NOT HAVE THE CD CHANGER UNDER THE DRIVERS SEAT ??

I've just checked and it doesn't have an amplifier under the front passenger seat ??

Just this nest of vipers:

Can anyone shed any light on why this is not working?

I am increasingly thinking that maybe all is not standard on this car

Sorry, I can't see images due to blocking restrictions here, but if you don't have the amp under the seat, you won't get any sound out.

I've got a '98 with HK system, have removed the head unit and use the amplifiers on their own (currently fed from an iPhone... work in progress), and they are essential for any of the speakers to work.

I don't think the CD changer is essential to make it all work (unless you want to play CDs, obviously!), but the amps definitely are.

In view of the missing amp, I'm going to start afresh with a new head unit, running speaker cables under the central console to the 'nest of vipers' picking up the cars' own amp-to-speaker cables, which should simplify the speaker wiring.

I have a new Ministry of Sound head unit so I'll use that in the short-term to get some tunes back into the car.

Cheers all,

Dave

The Alpine head unit is usually referred to as the "Hi-Line" set-up, not the HK set-up which has the sat-nav system too.
Unfortunately (for you) the head is designed to be used with the amplifier that normally lives under the passenger's seat.
The wiring diagrams for the Hi-Line ICE is in the RAVE electrical library.

I've had several TD5's before with Harmon Kardon ICE and none of them had sat-nav.

All I know is it's an Alpine head unit with HK door speakers, no amp and no CD changer. I reckon it's a bit of a buggers muddle.
