Hello all,

Im in the process of making my disco 2004 better from the home i got her from and am now looking into bushes and new front dampner,

My mechanic (ex land rover mechanic for 30+ years) absolutely slates POLYBUSH and reccomends going with genuine LR parts instead, i've looked into the price of parts alone (cheers rimmer bros) and its £700

Can someone advice me on exactly what items I need for my 2004 disco 2 with ACE and Airbags?

Kit 20 - Land Rover Discovery (Series 2)

As you can see in the link to polybush it says that fullkit20 is missing shock absorber, ARB and ACE bushes.

Do i need to buy 2 of each supplementary packs?

If so the full cost is £465.47 which is a lot cheaper than the genuine lr £700

Are there parts im missing?

Cheers and all the best

Hi Chewy before you go too far down this road, here are some links to alternatives that are less harsh on your pocket and work just fine:

DC7001 | Britpart Yellow Polyurethane Bush Kit - Discovery 2

SDLR05PWA | Floflex Polyurethane Bush kit (front and rear including s/abs bushes) - all TD5, and V8 from XA159807

KIT5111K | SuperPro Polyurethane Bush Kit - Discovery 2

Cheers

Had my 51 plate Discovery for over 10 years now and only needed to replace the ARB bushes and Watts linkage, are you sure you need to send that kind of cash.

Local mechanic I spoke to said unless doing a lot of off roading no need for the poly bush option

It seems to me that the biggest advantages of polybushes from any manufacturer are:

1. Easier to install;

2. Much cheaper the LR original rubber ones.

Nothing to do with on or off road imo.

Hi there

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions, i've spoken with my mechanic regarding bushes and he stands by what he origionally said regarding genuine LR parts.

I dropped my disco off to him last night and he is going to look at all the bushes and advice me on exactly what needs replacing so i can work costs out.

I work on festival sites during the summer supplying power and generators which means im off road and towing for the majority of this time (the terrain can at times be a bit hardcore) so this is one of the reasons ive been considering polybushes and an uprated steering damper.

I assume if I upgrade the damper I have to upgrade the bushes?

Ive heard alot of people saying that the lifespan of any polybushes is much less than genuine Lr so i may well just take thelong term option and trust LR parts after all

Cheers for all the info any other opinions or suggestions most welcome

what festivals? if you do Glastonbury, Bestival, Camp Bestival and a few others come to the Green Brownie and get some free cake and a cuppa.

I personally hate polybushes they dont last as long. They crack. Produce a harsher ride and generally dont offer improvement. Normal bushes are perfectly fina and theyve lasted 10 years already ;)

So ive finally decided that i'm going to stick with genuine Landrover bushes and instead of changing all the bushes in one hit im going to do them bit by bit as it turns out some of the bushes are fine and not in need of replacement yet.

I have also decided to go with a Bilstein uprated damper.

I'm going to RGB 4x4 in Essex tomorrow to pick up a few bits and pieces and then head to my mechanics with all the bits so he can start work on it

Well after just installing some superpro bushes in a set of radius arms for a customer I hate them even more. Theyre harder to put in with a press than standard ones :( the lip doesn't pull through easily they dont like pushing through straight and the centre sleeve isnt particularly tight.

Give me standard bushes any day

cotton reel type are **** i wont fit them

To my mind, polybushes are the budget fitment when you can't afford to rose joint all the linkages. i.e. They're meant for a race car destined for the smooth tarmac track, not on a vehicle which compromises on-road capability for awesome off-road capability. The "proper" bushes let Land Rovers do what they do...for 10 years or so.

(I know, I know there's plenty of off-road competition trucks etc. with rose joints etc.) :p
