Is it worth removing the bonnet when doing the HG? I was thinking of leaving the bonnet attached and also leaving the intake manifold attached (will remove the exhaust manifold in situ) and then getting my son to assist me to lift out the HG (with intake manifold attached)?
Any thoughts?

Well you can try, two of you might manage it. But I'd be inclined to do the reverse of what you suggest, i.e. leave the exhaust manifold well alone, unless you are determined to sort it for the future, but remove the inlet as the bolt/stud issue shouldn't be as problematic. If you choose to leave the bonnet on and then can't lift the head out, you can always go back and remove it.
Once out you will then be able to sort the exhaust manifold a lot more easily. I don't think you'll be able to remove the exhaust manifold without detaching the turbo from it and moving it to one side, though you won't need to disconnect the oil feed.

Yes, will leave the bonnet on and will leave the exhaust manifold on (detach from turbo as you say).
