Curious about painting aluminium

Hey. Just changed the o2 sensors on my 02 freelander and thought it might enhance the trucks look if i paint the aluminium skid plate. Mines all scuffed up and looks like it needs a pick up. Im curious whats involved in preparing and painting this kind of stuff?

clean prime with acid etch primer and then paint with the coatin of ya choice

what truck ?

etch primer, clean it with a scouring pad first, then spray over a few coats of acid etch then colour
