I think you will get a better response and a lot less **** taking if you tell us what vehicle it is
There is a raised thingie that can be easly seen if the coolent level is below the top it, on a 300 D1 or D2, as they have the same plastic header tanks.
Early discos had the RRC steel header tank with the old style 'rad cap'.
If the level is correct it will also line up with the joint seam around the tank and if the tank is filled any higher then excess coolent will be blown out via one of the valves in the cap.
dont rely on exspansion tank level to be sure full coolant system ,remove the two bungs one on rad and one on thermostat housing make sure there full ive seen plenty of engines very low on coolant but half full in exspansion tank ,its better to replace both bungs with brass ones
took the bungs out and filled up, warmed engine up and the header tank filled up and water was coming out of the cap.
is the idea of OE ones being plastic so that they CAN blow out under pressure? before something else lets go?
