I just pulled out the headlight assembly from my 2003 Disco 2 Td5 to replace a blown indicator globe. I however noticed a fair bit of condensation on the inside of the lens that I now want to get rid of. I don't have access to compressed air/compressor, so I thought I'd remove the lens that covers the four globes. I had a look for guides and had a look on YouTube but couldn't find anything. Little bit loathe to have a go without some guidance/tips in case I break something; idea was to remove lens, thorougly dry it and replace it. Any thoughts/ideas that don't involve a compressed air gun?

know it sounds really daft but could u put the light in some rice to try and dry it out

just a thought ;):D

PS, wondering about silica , but don’t know if it would leave dust inside the light

I had a look on Landyzone, and even though I hadn't found much on YouTube or via a Google search I did find quite a few threads here on Landyzone! Silly me, should have checked here first!

Anyway, taking the clear lens off the front looked problematic, so I took off the four caps at the back and the three grommets. I then used the hair dryer (not on hottest setting lest I deform any of the plastic!) and blew warm air through the "holes" at the back of the headlight assembly for around 10 mins. Anyway, condensation pretty much all gone now and caps and grommets back on. Minor issue is that where some of the condensation droplets where there are now slight watermarks left behind on the inside of the lens!

Maybe I could put some IPA in there and swish it around? Has anyone ever done that, or has anyone ever taken the lens off and re-fitted it?

Did the old rice trick with the iphone after I washed it - worked for a while, but soapy water leaves residual salts behind and phone failed later. Silica gel beads could work I think?

Hey, looks good! Thanks.

at least it gives u something to start with, lol

just been reading through the forum to see if i could find other info for u

ref the silica, i suppose my only concern would be if it left dust everywhere inside , unless u used the silica bags so it wasn’t loose

Thanks gstuart! So, condensation gone and headlight assembly back in - just those slight, annoying watermarks on the inside of the lens which I'll happily live with (for now), unless I find out how to remove the lens so I can clean the inside.

no worries , always happy to help

what about something like this as an example , using something , ie a micra fibre cloth and maybe the end of a wooden spoon to push it around inside the headlight ??

ie , of course depends if something like this would fit ,

know my lights can be pulled apart very carefully using a heat gun to soften up the glue and then separating the headlight

but very extreme to get rid of water marks, lol

That's a Disco 3 headlight - heat gun to take lens of eh? The Disco 2 headlight looks like the lens can be removed without a heat gun, but just not sure how to go about it at the moment and the potential pitfalls.

hi

yes , was just showing my headlight as an example , ref about the heat gun , lol

know some of the other guys are very knowledgeable ref the D2 lights and have some excellent ideas if and how to take the light apart if u wish to :D

Sure I've seen people just put soapy water in there and shake it about, and then make sure it's FULLY DRY with a low heat gun, or a hair dryer before reconnecting, will hand to see if I can find the thread.

Except they're a bit unlawful. They become illegal when you get caught! And after May they could be a MoT fail too.
I sort of doubt they'd bother pulling you for HID's, unless they are a stupid colour like 10/12k, I was running 6k in my old one, much better than "LED" bulbs.
And this new MOT thing sounds like lots of fun.. with my egr delete, decat etc... think some cheating will be needed o_O
