Just changed both diff oils-rear diff was cloudy yellow(not very different from virgin ep80/90),with slight grey mettalic swirl in the drain pot.The Front diff was black like coal slurry and very thick-anyone else seen this difference between the 2 diffs-maybe front diff is rubber ducked?

Sounds like the front diff oil hasn't been changed for a long time or if it was a browny/black slurry, that is emulsification of the oil due to water ingress/contamination

I don't fully understand why, but on every Disco I work on, the back diff oil is always contaminated and looks a bit like you describe, whereas the front one just looks like used diff oil.

I understand the contamination is due to water ingress, but why only the back diff? Why not the tranny box, main box or front diff?
