Land Rover Defender - County Station Wagon - 300 Tdi - 12 seater

I have for sale my Land rover Defender 300 TDI County Station Wagon, here are the details.

1996 model in Epsom green with a white roof
· More desirable and refined 300 Tdi engine

· London congestion charge exempt (I have the documentation to prove this)

· Original grey patterned seating

· Carpeted (Yes, carpet!) and sound-proofed. I believe this to because it is a County Station wagon

· Sunroof (that doesn't leak!!)

· Much more useful cubby box/centre arm rest in place of centre front seat

· MP3/CD/USB player with auxiliary input for phone or MP3 player

This Defender was a Land Rover (Dutton Forshaw) dealer demonstrator vehicle then one owner from then until late 2013 when I took ownership.

I bought this Defender to get me through the winter because I drive a classic vehicle the majority of the time. Although I have used my classic through winter it is just not suitable for winter driving. The Defender does this perfectly.
To finally own one of these iconic Defenders and to give the MG a rest was a joy.
It’s been great fun and in no way difficult to drive or manoeuvre like some suggested. I can swing this about and park it anywhere, easy.

I had always liked them from a young age and I’m so glad I finally took the plunge. It’s time now to get back into the old car and sell the Defender on.

During my ownership I’ve completed a number of jobs and some are listed below -

Recent big service at the Land Rover specialist Bespoke Offroad (Witney) including brakes and all oils + filters
I also asked for the main structure to be checked and that was reported back as being solid and not in need of any repairs at all.

Recent items fitted

New battery

New expansion tank

New Auxiliary drive belt and tensioner

New high output alternator

New rear step

4 x new door seals

New Windscreen and rubber

New Sunroof seal

Alloy wheels and all terrain tyres

New bulkhead Vent seals

New wiper linkage spindle

New headlights

New cubby box

New wiper blades

Known issues, well, it is a Defender

There’s a slight leak from the steering box but it’s about a drip or two a week, if that. It was an advisory on the last M.O.T. test and I’ve been told to leave it until I see oil spotting on my drive.

If snatched too quickly second gear can clip. I make normal gear changes and its fine. If you change hurriedly then you’ll feel it.

There is some corrosion at the rear on the tub cappings. Pictures can be supplied showing this. I have the parts required to repair this but time has got the better of me.

A couple of the doors are corroded and if kept I’ll be getting those seen to.

It’s had a proper working life so there are a number of scratches, bumps and knocks. Generally it looks really good (see pictures) but don’t expect a showroom example, it is still an 18 year old Defender.

Putting a price on this wasn’t easy for me, not being totally up to speed with these so I've resorted to looking at other 300 tdi County Station Wagons, with similar mileage on the internet, Auto Trader, Pistonheads and E-bay.
I found a few like mine that were in excess of £7000 that have sold within a couple of weeks, one had just shy of 200,000 miles so I’ve taken prices in that area and taken the issues into account.

Looking at current costs and considering the condition of mine I consider the asking price to be very fair.
This sale will include the new galvanised tub cappings, if required.
If I’m feeling generous I’ll include the swing away spare wheel carrier that I have also bought but not fitted, that was £130 and is still in the box it arrived in.

I’m aware that there are some with fewer miles, better bodies or nicer interiors but this is a balanced price based on the current market and the condition of mine compared with the others available.

As with any vehicle I would strongly recommend that you view the car to make sure you know what it is you are buying.

I will be advertising this on a number of other online sites.

If you have any questions then please ask. I have lots of pictures so if there is something you need to see than again, please ask, I have nothing to hide.
All the pictures are here but I have loads more...

Any of chassis etc?

I can't afford it unfortunately :(, but somebody's bound to ask... :)

Good luck with it.

Good thought. I don't have any but it won't take long to get whatever anyone needs.

I can't remember if it's in there but I asked for the chassis to be checked during the last service and apart from some general surface corrosion, it was given a clean bill of health.

If I get directions of what pictures to take I'll diver under and get them.

I'd have thought rear cross member [inside], rails in wheel arches and out riggers for a general idea of the condition but I don't imagine there's going to be any major issues looking at the top side and interior. :) ;)

Thank you, it is nice but it's time for another project and a summer car.

I have nothing to hide with this, it is what it is and I dare say most on here appreciate them but I'm getting little response everywhere else.

My wife is not happy at all about the imminent arrival of another car on the drive. Let alone the other car in the garage, so this Defender needs to go.

I'm NOT going to do this on the E-bay, Pistonheads or Gumtree adverts but here is different.
No one is going to refer to me as 'bruv' or say 'you get me?' so I'm happy to pass on the fact that I'm in a pickle here and no where else.

If someone wants this then I would take, as an absolute bottom line, £5,500

That allows £1000 from the current asking price.

You can call me on 07590 218 793 to discuss.
Many thanks,
Mike.

wow.

Ive gotta say thats a lot of CSW for 5.5K If i was in the market for one of these and its in the condition you say, id have it.

Heres a free bump.

GLWS. :)

Hmmmm so tempting, not getting luck here with the ones I am looking at. People here want your first born and a million bucks for a rust bucket.
Don't know what shipping would cost here and then the duty extortion after.

Have you any potential buyers Mike? I can do some research to see what it would cost to get it here.

BTW Mike, I forgot to ask what the mileage was, browsed but did not see that.

Thanks.

I've now got an interested potential buyer. It looks like it will be going on Thursday all being good.
I will update this thread when I know more

If it goes pear shaped let me know as I would be interested in this one, the girlfriend now wants a station wagon.

See what I meant about my luck. You had no bites until I said I will consider it?

Happy you are getting it sold, hope the new owner takes care of it and enjoys it.

Right....

I've got some good news (for me) and some bad news (for all who PMd me)

The Defender is all paid for and will be collected tomorrow.
:D and :( all at the same time.

I've had so many calls, e-mails and PMs from various sources I really can't go back to answer each one individually to give you the news, sorry.

It's a shame I only got some interest after I took a deposit for an amount much closer to the original asking price ;)

I'll miss this and I think I'll be back.

Well done Mike. My hunt starts again tomorrow..saw a few today but trying to see loads before deciding.
