Just wondering, why do so many Land Rover fans seem to hate chequer plate

I was considering fitting a little to my Series 2a - but why the stigma?

Enlighten me.

I think it looks silly, serves little purpose.

please don't fit it to a series!! (Unless on the bonnet)

Bonnets are strong enough unless you wanna dance on 'em. Wingtops are the only place I've put it cause they bend if you walk on 'em.....otherwise it's unnecessary bling that doesn't befit a Series or worse......hiding something :suspicious:

Didn't know the bonnets where I'll change mine then!
Only on fenders and series wings.. Other than that looks **** and helps the tin worm move in!

They never fitted them to Series wagons in the army, and as mine is ex-mob (60KB62 Truck Utility 3/4 Tonne, 4x4, Series 3), then that's a good enough reason for me not to fit them ;)

I got some on mine. On the wings, serves much purpose,

Looks awesome
Breaks up / contrasts colour
Helpful to stand on

Also got some on the doors, only a lil bit to cover a massive scratch hole...lol however does look good...

Only got wingtops on mine, mainly to cover the horribly dented wings under there :)

ive got me spare on the bonnet, but bonnet is ok, if you must, and that's about it...

Ive only ever seen it on a xmember to cover a knackered xmember, if yer sills need "protecting" get sliders.

The only chequer plate on mine is on top of the rock sliders, I use them as steps when climbing in and out. To me that's what its for, it should be used where its going to be trod on otherwise it's just extra weight and a muck trap.

Well, some people overdo their love for chequer plate a little. Sometimes you see things that appear to be nothing but a confection of chequer plate, where you've got to use your imagination to detect the Land Rover in there somewhere. Personally I'd rather see the Land Rover itself.

i would like some black plate on my red doulbe cab on the wings just for the ability to stand on it and the add a bit more colour in it

If used sparingly and correctly then it looks good and serves a purpose.

If its allover then its usually a dirt and ****e trap and hiding something.
