Can't get out

After a coupe of relatively trouble free weeks the Rangie decided to throw a new one at me yesterday.

The interior door handle stopped working, so I have to wind the window down, open the door from the outside then put the window back up.

I stripped the door last night to find the cable has snapped at the lock end - bugger!!!

Having looked around genuine cables are about £35 inc the taxman whereas ****part cables are about a tenner. Has anyone out there bought a non genuine cable and if so did it fit.

I dont mind pattern parts if they'll do the job but I'm vary wary when the name on the box is printed in blue.

It's a no contest really.
The Britpart for a tenner you don't want and the genuine is a rip off but otherwise the highest quality available.
Bit like saying that the rear exhaust silencer has fell off, you can get a Bosal for £60 and a genuine LR for £150.
Like everything else.....LR don't make cables, but if they did ????????

Good job LR don't make lager:beer2::beer2:

I bought a Britpart replacement heated exterior mirror...it fitted and and was identical to the original genuine.

my drivers door has just started playing up n now wont operate from the inside!! i reckon theres a bug going round, it feels like the cable has snapped!!!

fixed it!! my mate had one from the car he is breaking!! now just the starter motor to do!!! arrrrgggghhhhh it wont bloody start to put it on the ramps and the weather is pooo!!

i would rather endure the rain than fix my car in surrender monkeysville!! lol!!

plus they all speek gobbledy gook out there!!

but after the cars fixed i'd rather chill out in france if its warm!!

New cable finally arrived and was fitted last night. Like anything else on a P38 it never quite goes to plan.

Whilst groping blindly trying to get the lock out of the door the alarm system chirped a couple of times - no problem I thought as the door was open and I had obviously knocked the lever mechanism and tried to lock the door.

After a bit of fiddling, the new cable was in, tried and tested all handles and locking before putting the door casing back on and all seemed fine, so I rebuilt the door.

Feeling satisfied at a job well done, packed up all the tools and locked the car - it was at that point I noticed the P38 fairies had been at work again.

Now when I lock or unlock the car the indicators no longer flash but the SIDE LIGHTS do. What the hell is that all about. The number of flashes is exactly the same as it should be but just not on the indicators.

Am I going mad or have I done something stupid. I managed to change the door cable out without disconnecting the lock electrical harness, so cant understand why it has now changed from indicators to side lights.

Any thoughts.........................?????

An electrical spark has maybe upset the BECM. Perhaps you should have disconnected the battery before working. Try disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes.

My passenger (front) door now refuses to lock if activated from the drivers door manual locking!!! but will lock itself and all the other doors with the exception of the drivers door if manually locked by pushing the button down. Is there any end to continual nagging probs with these trucks - i have been extremely lucky I've had the car for over 13 yrs over 10 of them have been faultless but the last 3 have been a nightmare!!!

Looks like your lock/unlock motor has given up. Quite common at that age. Only cure is a new lock asembly I'm afraid - about £120 or so from a stealer unless you want to try a 'used but good' item from a breakers or fleabay. Try Emmotts of Colne (lancs). They sell stuff on Ebay now.

Mine locked me in just for spite. Was having a few "issues" due to my battery being sucked inside out by the remote receiver whilst I was on hols. When it did eventually decide to let me get in it was like a ruddy great 4.6L Venus Fly Trap. The moment I got in the doors locked, alarm went off and the dead locks kicked in. On the plus side I have some very funny CCTV footage of me raging around inside the car, shoulder barging doors, frantically pulling on door releases etc before eventually coaxing the window open and escaping out that way.

Nothing says “dignified” more than a forty odd year old chubby bloke trying to squeeze out a car window. As luck would have it the alarm was going off all the time so the neighbours had a chance to come outside and watch.
