Just got my 110 back from the garage. They’ve said she needs a new gearbox, she drives fine but won’t go from 3rd to 2nd gear. Will go from 1st to 2nd - all be it a tad sticky - went through last MOT last with no probs. 161000 on the clock Garage was vague and reluctant to investigate but they are trustworthy and I’ve used them for years. Any ideas on value?

So they are Vague and reluctant to check? Pfft.

And trustworthy..

2 things in my mind that never go together.

Trustworthy my *****.

It's inability to select certain gears will knock it's value somewhat..

I'd get it investigated by a garage that can be bothered and then fixed.

Then sell it for the proper price.

A good 110 doesn't exactly sell for peanuts,

Thanks. Garage don’t deal
With big jobs like this. He was quite direct about it. I just don’t have a bottomless money pit to throw at it.

Dropping a gearbox out of a LR is by no means a difficult job for someone on a lift with good tools,
Heck rebuilding a box isn't too bad.

Most on this forum do it on axle stands and in a shed!

I'd say that garage is not worth its weight in cow shyte IMHO you should find someone more competent.

As for money..

You sell it for much less than what it is really worth with a knackered box,

Or put a rebuilt box in it or rebuild the current one and sell it for a proper price.

That is if the rest of the car is in good nick.

yeah, I guess they’re being slack. I did feel a bit let down.
Rest of her is tidy, in good order, tatty in places but that’s her age and mostly cosmetic.
Thanks

Just advertise it and wait for a buyer who's new to Landys, on the test drive just look surprised if they query it and say matter of factly "oh they all do that, something's wrong if they don't".
