That looks like a very scenic place. Looks a bit like the road over the hills between Tornapress and Applecross on the west coast of Scotland. Is it?

Most remaps are different, and offer different things. I opted for maximum torque because I tow chippers and mini diggers on an ifor Williams trailer, and to be honest, a standard TD5 is completely and utterly shocking at lowish rpm.

I have no egr,new IC and straight exhaust plus the remap, plus new brakes and bearings all round, and a very well adjusted handbrake, ie no binding or undue friction whatsoever.

The remap with the straight thru is unbelievably torquey, allowing the turbo to spin up so much sooner, its so drivable. With an empty triple axle on the back, you don't really notice its there, and is a far better drive than a standard td5 driving only itself.

When warm, I change up on the main road (minus trailer etc) into top at anything between 20-25mph. Everytime, unless I'm in a hurry of course.

I would add, I have no idea what the rpm is as I don't have a rev counter. Its also on the standard, low geared 1.4 tranny, shortly to be changed for the 1.22

@Brown Certainly is the road up to Applecross, stunning part of the country, keen to return with something slightly more sporty than the faithful landy.

Well I finally have my re built discovery box in my 90, taken quite a while but other things kept getting in the way, managed a quick run this evening and it seems like another gear has been added first is now usable and all the others seem to have moved up one, fith now seems like an overdrive, but I think others have commented on this.
Should be interesting re learning to drive it

Just to add, yesterday I had a 16ft ifor with about a ton and a 1/2 of green Lawson cypress timber, and I changed up into top on the main road at 25 mph. No problems at all!

Sounds like a well sorted vehicle you have there!
Low RPM power is what you want in a Defender if you are towing heavy loads.

Bit the bullet and got an overdrive for mine. Have a Disco box spare but with the 35s, I thought might be that bit tall in 1st. Could always even go one further again then by changing the 5th gear ratio if I ever need to rebuild the gearbox if I feel I've loads of power to pull a very tall 5th on longer spins

25mph in top gear on a Defender with the standard transmission is 1,000rpm.
My 110 will pull away from that speed, not very quickly, but it will do it.
It's running a lower power remap as it smokes too much with the standard one that Mike uses. He had to turn it down a couple of times.
l'd probably go for an overdrive if they were not so expensive, as reverse gear is fairly high as it is.

I have been watching my GPS and speedo, which don't seem to tally. My speedo seems to be over reading.

I thought the speedo picked up its signal after the ratio change of the Disco box and wouldn't be affected by it.

Should the Garmin GPS speed be trusted?

Am i wrong? If so, how do I correct it ?

ratio change shouldnt effect speedo ,providing your still using your original speedo drive

If it is any consolation, my D2 speedo overreads by approx 8% compared to 3 different GPS readings.

Still using original speedo drive, so I didn't think it would be an issue.
