As I say, I had severe judder moving from rest. Fitting a new one of these stopped it...

Mine's a '99. The same part for a MY01+ car is this...

The issue was solved immediately by fitting the mount and came back immediately I put the original back on - so it did have an affect. I don't know if yours is suffering the same problem - but you mentioned problems with your mount - so its very coincidental!

The 2nd time I did it, it probably only took 30 minutes to swap over and the early part is only £17 for a Britpart part to see if it helps. The later one starts at £40 so quite a bit more costly to take a punt on.

I've also hear that leaking oil that gets onto clutch plates can cause this. I also wonder whether a sticking release arm (precursor to seizing!) could also cause it.

All clutch components need careful lubrication, including the release arm spindle.
I use moly based grease on all PG1 release mechanism parts and it seems to work.

There was actually a Rover TSB on the PG1 box and it's judder way back in the late 90s. It explains how a dealer technician can spray a dry PTFE type lubricant on various components to stop the judder. If that fails, then a full strip, clean, lube and rebuild are needed.
This judder affected many PG1 boxes, including the Honda box the PG1 was based on.

I developed my own cure for the MGF and ZS180 which suffered the same issue. I'll dig out some pictures of where to lubricate tomorrow when I've access to my data drive.

I did buy the clutch and give it to them to fit. It’s going back tomorrow anyway. I’ve asked him to strip it back and have a good look, I want the car running with no issues before I go to France. It shouldn’t be causing this issues. Hopefully it shouldn’t need replacing just like nodge says, cleaning and lubricating correctly. I have a clutch bearing and a main seal so may get him to change those as well. Getting tired of this car! May have to go back to an Alfa next time, less issues

What France ? In a Freelander ? Make sure you've got full European breakdown cover lol

I drive to Devon and back regularly. I’ve never actually broken down in this car, it always seems to struggle through with issues I’m just fed up of having issues

My freelander 1.8 clutch is a bit tricky on start off too. My previous car was an auto so I just thought it was me getting used to it. I feel much better now that I know it is common.

I’ve ordered the mount above on the off chance. Considering getting the poly bush bits for the tie rod as seen on a different thread. My new drop link arrived to day.
It’s a meyle-hd, I must saw as packaging and appearances go it looks pretty good. The build quality is 10 times better than the ones I’ve fitted previously

I’ve just been out and fitted the mount. The old one doesn’t look to be worn at all. Just as stiff. With very little play at all.
The upper tie that fits behind it though is very loose. The rubber is moving freely around inside the mount. I feel that this could’ve my issue.
anyone know a good option for this part.

Got a picture of what you need.?

That’s the correct part but is it possible to just buy the bush. It seems such a waste to buy the full mount when that isn’t an issue but only the rubber bit.
I can feel a noticeable change with the new mount fitted. But as with freelancers wkth every fix a new issue arises

When talking about the lower tie bar before, I'm sure @Nodge68 has mentioned that the bush is the same as a part on a Rover (25?) car. The bush on the upper tie bar looks very similar.

From that page, the bush is exactly the same in the lower and upper tie bars. Searching through posts, I believe the bushes nodge was referring to are something like (but don't take my word!) this...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Polyurethane-Engine-Mount-Bush-MG-ZR-ZS-TD-120-160-180-Rover-Turbo-K-T-Series/320861633132?hash=item4ab4d7fa6c:g:188AAOxy2CZTalbZ

However, I think (almost) everyone does not recommend using poly bushes on that upper tie bar and only use with caution on the lower tie bar because of the vibration they cause. The poly bushes are about the same price as the whole tie bar any way.

Reading that page, it could be the upper tie bar is OK anyway - it sounds like they are not very 'tight' at all - but conversely, it might be just a bit to loose :) Difficult to say! With my one, I didn't remove the upper bar - but I noticed that it moved side to side quite a bit, but not so much back to front - looking at the pic on that page of the bush extracted its obvious now why because the bush has a ridge in the middle.

The large bush is the same dimentions as many Rover tie bar bushes. I suspect the bush specification is different, to suit the individual engine/ vehicle design.
I used the poly version on my V6 lower bar, but it would be too hard for the upper bar. The poly bush wouldn't suit the diesel engines for the same reason.

Is this the correct bush!

It looks like it was made to go in the Freelander tie bars. What its like is anyone's guess. You could cut the Lithuanian middle man out and buy 50 from their Chinese supplier...

https://hanous.en.alibaba.com/product/60464349784-802964983/Engine_Mounting_for_Freelander_01160780.html

They say they mainly supply to South America and Eastern Europe, and a Google of their part number for the bush does throw up quite a few eastern European suppliers listing it. For all we know though, it may be where Britpart and the likes source them from!

Not sure what they mean by "Left Rear Engine Mount". Some of the other ex Soviet suppliers do list it as for the right though.

Maybe we should do a group buy GG, straight from Alibaba? I can never work out there prices, but it looks like $1.30 per unit with a minimum order of 50 units. That's only about £50 for 50, so not much really.
