if you are thinking of buying a 1.8 freelander,it helps if you can to repairs yourself.1st of all remove the door cards on all doors with electric windows and greece the bare cables otherwise they rust and the cables will snap inside motor.2nd remove thermostate from engine because these engine,s are prone to overheat and blow the head gasket.mine failed on emissions for mot.these are the items i changed.plugs, airfilter, oil and filter, lambda sensor and cat.the last 2 items i got cheap over the internet.there is a fan sensor which i am going to run a wire and switch inside the cab.this is for when im towing i can start the fans manually.its not all bad news, these cars are very good in winter.also i want to mention about the clutch slave cylinder it is not adjustable.the way round this is get your drill and elongate the bolt holes then you can slide it to suit your own driving.i hope this thread helps new owners

ouch they arnt that bad although im getting a new clutch fitted tomorrow im enjoing mine loads cant wait for the snow :D

But will your head gasket.............................
well we will see:eek: this is my first 4x4 and like it so far there are lots of negative comments with the 1.8 fl but there are also lots about the td4 that said my next one will be a td4 face lift when i get some more£££££;)

if the clutch slave cylinder goes on a td4 you do know the gearbox has to come out to replace it unlike the 1.8 which is on the out side of the gearbox.
