Hi guys. I have a 2006 Freelander 2.0td 4×4, and I want to remove the Catalytic Converter. The nearest shop that can do it is over 150km away from where I live. Is it a major job to remove it by myself and is there perhaps a video link/instructions on how to remove it myself?

The cat forms part of the exhaust, so if you remove it, the exhaust would need to have a replacement section welded in.

In the UK it's now illegal to remove emmisions equipment, so most people just remove the honeycomb matrix inside the original cat, so it can't be dedicated at the annual test.

I'm in South Africa, so it isn't illegal to remove it. Would removing the honeycomb matrix have the same effect?

Yes, the honeycomb matrix is the cat. What are you trying to achieve by removing it? If it's more power, there won't be much difference. If it's for reliability, then that's understandable.
