Alway had trouble with towing my caravan and lagging on hills needing to drop to 4th to get up anything so tweaked the pump properly marked upa dn got it running sweet no smoke plenty of power but still no power on hills. So had a mate give me a boost pin he had for his disco before tin worm took over

Fitted it with the instructions he got with it and smoked like hell. Towed caravan and no trouble on any hills just smoked alot so took pin out and black line smack dead centre so it spot on there knocked wheel back to standard as thats what instructions say pin back in lined up dead centre. Then it felt like no power till 2000 in any gear and hills are 1st gear as no go so stopped turned wheel up quater turn still no power on hills. Stopped again another quater turn and got back to the camp. I got back and ive fitted the plastic washer that the instructions say you dont need unless it smokes

Any ideas what going on as the line is dead centre every time i refit it.

Black line smack dead center?

what are you talking about? black line of smoke?
What boost pin are you using? maybe a picture could help..

isn't your engine overfueling?

Did you turn the 'smoke screw"?

The black line off the pin that moves off the accelerator cable and marks a line on the pin.

Motor doesnt appear to be using any more fuel than normal

I have fiddled with smoke screw last night so will c how it goes today

So how'd it go?

Have you moved the max fuel screw (left side, under rubber thingy/hose connection with nothing on it).

That aftermarket boost pin should not be turned, just fitted as instructed. (i guess you have that fat pin with the instructional on Youtube).

smoke screw changes the moment of max boost, turn clock wise to add boost on low rev's. (so less boost high revs).

Ive got it set up spot on now.after tweaking the standard pin the setting back to standard. It didnt run right with boost pin so had a jiggle with smoke screw and got it boosting all way through the range spot on and no smoke loads of power and grunt for caravan towing. It took a couple of week to get to perfections and a egt guage fitted and all is good with temps even towing.

nice one, how's the egt doing on long hills with the caravan?

Itl tow around 60mph and on hills doesnt lag just pulls nicely and egt hasnt gone above 620 so all good so im told all good on that front so happy to leave it as is at minute

Are we saying basicaly the aftermarket boost pins are no good, and pump tuning is better than relying on one?

The pins work bit not much more difference than a tweaked pump. On a tweaked pump i had loads power no smoke and when caravan on back ot had no power on hills.

Fitted boost pin and all is spot on now with van on back.and loads power and no smoke. It took a bit of jiggling to perfect as standard setup just didnt do anything for the pin so smoke screw adjusted and spot on now
