Lovely Shropshire...
It appears i have not suffered enough...td5 won't start after HG failure and rebuild. No worries, ill use the range (L322)...except it was pulling up a gentle gradient to the station and it went bang. no drive, just awful winding grinding noise...
worth fixing or sell it

Either Gearbox let go (if it is the Td6, one of the shafts literally unwinds itself as it was made by spiralling the metal!!) or the front diff input splines have gone (if yours hasn't had the recall work done)

Garage are looking at car this morning whilst i do step-sons Clio Brakes...other cars seem soooooo small once you've worked on a Land Rover!

So it appears that the threads have stripped in the shaft. Are these easy to drop? i assumed that you just undid the doughnut and out they come...

Any thoughts?

Right...any thoughts about that this should have been done on a recall and what do we think of the chances of it been done now or at least being reimbursed for it?

Nick.

This is all I have which I think is from the USA but same recall. whether they will still honour it, got to be worth a try .

Hmmm....interesting. I have contacted land rover and am awaiting their reply. I have looked at the car today whilst it is on the ramps and it looks like the original part at the top of this post, not the upgrade.
I am considering having the gearbox out and replacing the torque convertor as it does the cattle grid sound/vibration thing. The Diff Input flange kit from Shukers land rover is £200 odd pounds and the driveshaft is around £100. Don't fancy fitting non genuine but wonder why you can still buy the duff one?

Because of the necessity to get the pinion bearing preload correct the Q041 service action (it was never called a ‘recall’ over here, instead LR called it a 'Loyality Assurance Programme') was quite an extensive/expensive one. I should push hard to get the dealer to do it if I were you – though the programme was launched over 7 years ago now and was supposed to finish in June 2010 so best of luck.

Nice work as usual Phil, i was wondering...
One day I may do a front end overhaul and replace my front driveshafts and I was considering replacing the front diff or having it refurbished so I know everything is new along with the engine mounts. It's sort of a further attempt to trace my clunk that I needlessly took my transfer box apart for ( against somebody's better judgement).
Do you know anyone that can service or refurb the front diffs as I couldn't find anyone that touches them ?

Hi, yes i understand...just thinking about other peoples fitments. I love driving Land Rover, and feel the l322 is probably my favourite looking RR (having a classic which is just visible in our pic and previously owning several and a P38) but i feel based on my own experiences Land Rovers agents to be extremely snooty and fall very short on competent, well rounded and caring servicing unless you buy every couple of years from them and then you are their best friend. Still no reply from land rover regarding prop shaft.

Ever hopeful Nick.

Unfortunately not. You see various places online but I’ve never had cause to try any of them – obviously a personal recommendation would be best. Because Land Rover kept extending the deadline for Q041 to finish I’m only aware of people getting their upgrades done at the Dealers.

By the way Andy, things are slowly coming together at the Unit. Shouldn’t be long now…..

Phil

Hi Phil, that's certainly what I found when contacting a few people but there is probably nothing wrong with mine anyway.
That's an impressive unit you have there, I can see you are going to be busy and with a global market I am looking forward to watching your empire grow.
Are you concentrating on ZF initially ?
I bet JPAT are pleased and I can see you have a few TCs in stock.
Are you going to get involved with the vehicles or leave the dirty work alone?
Questions questions !!
Andy
