Hi All , Well I have just sold my 7 series BMW and Iam going to take the plunge again this time with a 1996 4.6 hse ,when I was here last year I run a 2.5 dse , I am looking at a 4.6 hse tomorrow it has 165,000 on the clock ,would you think that the issues with head gaskets ,slipped linears and coolant problems would have been sorted by now or could be ready to bite someone on the arse big time ,its got full service history and looks very original .

Any help would be gratefully recieved .

Cheers.

mine went at circa 165k it's now on its 170's and new block with t/hat liners, should be good till 250k now!!!

i would recon on buying a new block but if the rest of the car is in good order then theres nothing saying you wont get a bargain if its cheap enough to start with. once the engine is proved to be fine/replaced then the car should last a long time!

I'm inclined to agree with Tervueren. £2500 is too much for that mileage unless it's had a hell of a lot of work done. Even then, if that doesn't include any engine work, it's still far too much.
Good luck with whatever you buy anyway. Take your time. There's lots out there to choose from.
