Hi, everyone, im guessing this has been covered but i couldn't find it or im not looking in the right place.
Im going to buy a lr disco 300tdi but im not sure weather to go for auto or manual, its going to be my everyday truck for work etc but i also want to do green laning etc later on this year, well thats the plan. Ive been reading on th e net and seems 50/50 on both.
So i thought i would ask you guys what you thought ?
Any help or advise will be great, and sorry if i have posted it in the wrong section.
Cheers!

Depends on how lazy you Are?
And how deep your pockets are fuel wise ;)
Other than that you can't bumps start the auto .

a little, untill torque converter locks at 50 ish not all energy is transfered to the wheels ,after just the same as a manual, try both

either have plus and minus , just a personal choice in the end . In one of my defenders I wanted a manual for its usage and engine , the other I put an auto in due to what i use it for . I think the 300tdi turbo lack of torque from 0 is masked by having an auto box . HTSH

One of my mates has a 300 Tdi auto. Knocking around on short trips it's very heavy on fuel, far heavier than my previous Tdi Defender or my current Td5 one. I think he said he gets around 17 or 19 to the gallon.

Mmmm lots to think about, i had a 4x4 2.5 td a few years ago, not a landy which was a bit juicy around town. But a td will be cheaper to run than a v8 im guessing

300tdi autos had a ecu controlled fuel pump where as manuals ware the old mechanical type. I am in the process of rebuilding a 3.5V8 RRC and converting it to manual as thats my preference. I have driven many auto and manual 4x4's and unless you are towing heavy loads on hilly roads I would pic a manual every day, but as I say that's my preference.

One point about the 300tdi with edc is the difficulty getting replacement injectors. I find our manual is more economical on ordinary roads, but on a motorway, where the auto can lock into top gear and stay there it becomes the more economical. It really is a personal preferance.
