iv recently got a 300tdi auto fsh 100,000 miles one owner so pretty well looked after but im noticing on the flat even on main roads it wont change into 4th gear untill im doing around 50mph no matter wot i do with the accelerator, iv had a manual before and iv had non landrover autos but this seems a bit od, like today going along a dual carriagway doing a constant 50 ish and after a mile it changed to 4th, is this normal. also im only getting 19mpg although i do have mud tyres on upto pressure im quite use to these kind of figures so its not a problem as long as its right?.
im planning on servicing next week athough not due yet, also de egr.
will altering smoke screw on pump affect mpg?
thanks for any help

thanks for quick replies atleast its right then just means 98% of the time i dont get out of third no wonder im getting 19mpg ha nevamind

I know diesels have different change ratios but with my petrol disco I can fourth at around 30mph if not 25 on a flat road even with a diesel I would say u have a problem if your not in top a 30mph.

I have no indication i'm in fourth gear other than moving the selector into 3 and seeing the engine revs go up and the only gear change I can feel is first to second, i've never checked but it must be around 10-15mph.
At an indicated 53mph my torque converter locks and unlocks around 48mph.

Torque-converter lock up! not 4th gear if it is a gear change then u have a problem unless your still in kick down.
4th gear and lock up do happen at the same time ,3rd gear is a 1 to 1 ratio same as 4th in manual 4th in auto is similar to 5th in manual
