Hi,
I was hoping someone on here has had this issue and can offer some advice.
Basically my 95 300Tdi Disco's auto gearbox got stuck in 1st gear. I changed the oil and oil filter which sure enough fixed the problem (after being run in).
Its now a month later, and once again the gearbox is playing up. wont change up or down gears, and occasionally has no drive at all.
So we changed the oil again, and extracted what looked like about a mug full of carbon from the sump, and the oil filter.
Once again this fixed the problem, and the car worked through all gears and reverse, and was then left on the drive, nose down, slight angle over night.
The next day reverse no longer worked. We have again changed the oil, cleaned the filter, and reverse is still shot. All forward gears work, although there is a clunk going into neutral. The car has been driven about 50 miles to try and clear any blocked ports with no success.
It would seem a shame to replace the gearbox, if its only the reverse gear which is not working. Has anyone experianced this before? Has any removed the controller unit from the gearbox in a home garage on axel stands?
